I was SO EXCITED to read this when it came out, and it definitely didn’t disappoint.
Lor and Nadir were perfection; the pay off was worth the wait with these two. 😉
Gabriel’s POV was super insightful and helped continue to create depth in an already really well developed world.
This series is so impressive, because there’s been so much work put into building up the world. A lot of shown-instead-of-tell moments. The writer doesn’t just tell us “you should like/dislike these characters ” instead, we are given time to get to know them, witness their actions and come to our own conclusions.
I sooo appreciate that.
I care about the relationship’s because I have been given a chance to decide that I care; I wasn’t just told that I should.
I think this series is a great example of what can be done when writers use each book to prioritize/deepen world building.
Read it!
Lor and Nadir, after all their ups and downs in book 2, are racing back to where things all began now that they have what they need to put the puzzle pieces together. The stakes in this book are high between their enemies making moves, Nadir’s father out to get them, and a love that burns brightly but threatens to be snuffed out if they can’t unearth an ancient ritual.
We got to see some old favorites from book 1 again, notably GABRIEL, and the role he plays is so much more important than we first thought. I love him so much and I loved the turn this book took with the storyline around the king. Everything is coming full circle and the relationships between the siblings and found family they’ve formed is incredible. This ragtag bunch has my heart.
Nadir and Lor’s romance is a strong presence in the story and I love them dearly. When they are both on the same page, my heart exploded with happiness. And the spice is so good! But what I love most is how ride or die they are for each other. They’re so perfect together.
Figuring things out doesn’t mean it’s all smooth sailing because Lor still has trust issues but even when she wobbles, she’s able to work through it. She might fear being blinded by affection again but she knows he loves her deeply.
I now just need book 4 and my life will be complete.
I received an early copy from the publisher and chose to review voluntarily
I loved learning more about the history of their world and where everything began. I loved seeing Willow and Tristan grow as characters and start to build lives for themselves. I liked that a lot of questions were answered, while there were more arising. I also enjoyed the insight we got into Gabriel's life and the role he played.
The romance and spice were amazing! The slow burn of the first two books finally paid off and it was perfect!
And the end... OMG!!! I love cliffhangers and this one is definitely brutal! Waiting until the final book is going to be rough!
On the plus side the world building is pretty cool and the backstory is interesting. Not amazing but interesting.
The romance though… it’s so cringy and cheesy I eventually started skimming and relationship based chapter and only read the plot driving chapters.
I wanted so much more from this book. It doesn’t help that I stopped part way to read Feather and when I came back the romance seemed that much more irksome.
I also didn’t love the ending. I get the shock and that fantasy romance is pretty formulaic so of course this was going to happen. But you also know it’s not what it seems, so I feel a little cheated and manipulated by it. Which again is a thing that happens all the time so I understand why the author did it.
All that being said I will 100% read the next one (which is more than I can say for Glint).

Lor has been through so much from imprisonment to the trials to now being hunted by both the Sun and Aurora Kings. Now she must fight to unearth the truth about the Artefacts and what it means to her future while working to free her magic.
We join Nadir and Lor as they journey through Heart, and onwards towards Achelion in their quest to find the key to unlock her power. Never fear fellow romantics! At long long last we see Lor acknowledge that belonging does not have to mean slavery and subservience.
Many characters were introduced in the past and present, and this added wonderfully to the story and worldbuilding introduced in the first two books. Hold on to your pages, people, because there are many shocks to be had, and a cliffhanger that will have you crying out.
Thank you very much to Netgalley and Nisha for the chance to read this fantastic ARC <3
Lor and Nadir finally accept their feelings (& fate?) which provides many spicy little moments in this book. And look, 'lightning bug' is definitely not my favourite term of endearment, but I think it suits the character.
I really enjoy the flashback chapters, showing how the current world came to be - the artefacts, the people and drama, the secrets and betrayals. It's crucial information to the story, but also just interesting to know.
Loved this one! But that ending??
