I usually write my reviews right away for each book but I had to sit on this one for awhile. Mostly because I was just wrecked by this series. The first book was good, but it almost felt like it should end there and so it took me a bit to pick up the second one. The second book dragged for the first… 30-40%, I almost DNF … but when it picked up that was it. Let me tell you… it was just one thing after another and an emotional rollercoaster and the plot twists … the series does get darker and darker as it goes on. There’s some really twisted cruelty in the name of good that was sometimes hard to stomach at times. Torture and experimentation etc stuff like that is hard for me personally to stomach.

And the ending was hard, though good and felt real. There are just not many books that get you SO personally invested in the characters like this series got me.

With that being said, the one piece of feedback I have is that I would have loved a lot more detail about the characters. There’s many mentioned about the MFC and her appearance but very little about everyone else. It was hard for me to imagine them in my head while reading.

This is one of the best trilogies I have ever read! Definitely in the top three. And I have been reading for over 60 years. Each book in the trilogy is better than the previous one. The main romance is organic and natural. It is an epic love story and so exciting!
I also loved the fey parallel romance which I couldn’t get enough of. The world building and “magic systems” are incredible! This is “dark fantasy” at its finest! I am adding Carissa to the top of my list of must-read authors; authors such as Sarah J. Maas and Laura Thalassa.
The series is emotionally brutal and soul-wrenching, yet life-affirming and inspirational! Reading these 3 books have left a searing imprint upon me.

These books just stick with you. The writing is impeccable and you see parts of yourself in every character. These stories that are so raw will leave you feeling skinned are some of the best books. I found this author by accident because I feel like this genre only speaks of the few and while those few are amazing, there is so many stories waiting to be devoured by us. Carissa writes so beautifully. She captures your attention with subtlety and gently asks that you take a chance. So, take the chance and read everything she writes. Your only disappointment is when it ends.

Sometimes a book sticks with you long after you're done reading. This whole series is rattling in my brain. The writing is exquisite and few authors will compare to Carissa's writing style. Beautiful prose and other writers pale in comparison.

You fall in love with most of the characters and you'll wish they were truly alive.

This series was just perfect. The first book sets up a lot of the slow burn, and then the second will set you up for a twist you likely didn't see coming, while the finale answers the questions you never knew you had.

I devourd this in 4 days and spend late nights overcome with emotion.

I recommend this to anyone who will listen.

I loved every minute of this trilogy. I still have a book hangover, and I finished reading book 3 a few weeks ago! The story just sucked me in from the beginning. All books were engrossing and I loved the whole beautiful story. Highly recommend!!

The War of Lost Hearts quickly became one of my absolute favourites. The characters are real, flawed, and incredibly relatable and lovable. Even the ones painted as the "villian" are tangible and understandable. It makes choosing a side in some conflicts challenging. These books were long. But incredibly well written. They made me laugh, and cry and smile. My heart was broken countless times and then pieces backed together. It had everything I ever look for in a fantasy romance and MORE. These characters will forever live in my heart and this series will be read by me frequently. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. The journey was brilliant and 100% worth it.

Biography

I've been concerning teachers and parents with mercilessly grim tales since I was roughly nine years old. Since then, my stories have gotten (slightly) less depressing and (hopefully a lot?) more readable. Today, I write fantasy novels with a heaping dose of badass ladies and a big pinch of romance.
