Until You: The Redemption Series, Book 1 Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

A single dad, forced proximity, standalone romance from New York Times bestselling author K. Bromberg.

Crew Madden needs to find a place to recover.
For his twin girls.
For himself.
From the woman who left them without a backward glance.

Recovering from a traumatic event, a summer in the small town of Redemption Falls was the perfect solution for him. For his family. The only drawback? The rental cottage at the end of the drive.

But then he met its tenant.

The quiet, guarded, sexy-as-sin woman who took Crew’s breath away.

Tennyson West moved to Redemption Falls to hide.
From her previous world of abundance.
From the woman she used to be.
For a chance to start over . . . and be free.

She’s settled into her new life on the outskirts of a small town, content with her solitude. Her peaceful life.

And then she met her new landlord.

Crew Madden—and his sweet daughters—entered her life with a bang. She learned how to laugh again, to
love again, something she never thought would be possible.

It was only meant to be a summer fling, but as demons from their past knocked on the door, their relationship was tested. Was their love strong enough to keep them together or would danger drive them apart for good?

Single Dad Romance Fans - this book is for you!
Single Dad Romance fans - this book is for you! You NEED Crew Madden in your life!“Do you know what I’ve dreamt of doing to you? The places I want to kiss? The things I want to lick? The pleasure I want to give? The sounds I want you to make? Do you, Tenny?”It’s the smirk for me! Crew Madden could drive a woman wild with just a simple smirk and come hither look and I’d be on my knees. Whew! He was just as dreamy as the cover that is for sure! This single dad romance was the epitome of a great neighbors to lovers story with a little forced proximity and woman on the run suspense. I fell hard and fast for the way Crew was so attentive and caring with his twin daughters, after a tragic incident on the job, the quiet of small town life was just what they all needed. But what they didn’t expect was to meet Tenny, a beautiful woman with her own tragic past and secrets to hide.“Every woman should have a man who looks at her like he looks at me. Like even when he’s in the midst of being in the moment with his own daughters, I feel like I’m the only one in the world he sees. And nothing could be further from the truth . . . but it’s how he makes you feel.”Crew and Tennyson built a fast friendship and camaraderie that I loved. He didn’t let her hide behind her fears and she became a sounding board for all his troubles, it’s all about the trust fall. And boy did Tennyson have a lot to be fearful of, the chapters from her past had me anxious for her, feeling her fears and seeing all she had escaped. The story was low on the couple drama, all about the insane chemistry and love that developed between them, finding a kindred spirit in each other, something neither had planned for in their lives again. There was great push and pull between them, both sensitive to the others guarded hearts, yet not afraid to explore what was between them - definitely some hot moments! Overall a great small town romance with plenty of heat and chemistry!

I hadn't read a Bromberg novel for some time. No particular reason except life got in the way and I don't have as much time to read. So when "Until You" popped up on my radar I was intrigued with the plot premise and I settled in.

Crew Madden is a Chicago cop on forced leave due to a serious injury and all its ramifications, physical and psychological. Since he can't work for the time being, he packs up his twin daughters and they head to Redemption Falls where he spent many happy summers as a boy. He needs a safe place for his girls whose mother up and left them. A place where he can relax and get his life back on track and Addy and Paige can stop worrying that something will happen to take him away from them too. The plan is to stay at his uncle's house for the summer while he does repairs and gets it ready to be sold. Redemption Falls is safe. The girls can play outside without him being on constant alert. The only fly in the ointment is the tenant living down the lane in the cottage. She's written endless letters to his uncle asking for repairs that she deems critical. Well, Crew will get to them in time but they aren't first on his To-Do list.

Tennyson West is actually the perfect tenant. She pays her rent in advance, keeps to herself and doesn't bother anyone. Truth be told, she's an introvert which is perfect for her job of editing romance novels. Tenny just wants to live quietly without looking over her shoulder, afraid that her past life will catch up with her. She would like however, for her landlord to make some badly needed repairs. Her decision to confront the hot nephew in person morphed into a voyeur-like exercise that had her  eyeballing his shirtless, sweaty physique as he was manhandling some huge timbers. Oh my!

When Tenny and Crew finally meet, the chemistry between them is off the Kelvin scale but they try to ignore it and dance around the attraction for a while, becoming good friends in the process. What cements their relationship is the ease with which she relates to eleven year old Addy and Paige. Tennyson has an innate understanding of their emotional needs as well as their likes and dislikes. Acutely aware of the feminine influence that's been lacking in his girls' lives and seeing first-hand how they've blossomed from it as well as his more active role as a father gives Crew a long look at what's been missing in his life too. In conjunction with that, Tenny needs to open up and share the ghosts of her past so she can relax and stop looking over her shoulder. But will she?  Better yet, can she?

K. Bromberg's "Until You" is a single dad romance done right. Crew is almost the perfect father, walking that fine line between giving in to his daughters' requests without being overly indulgent. And Tennyson is a perfect fit for Crew and the twins. Her interactions complete the happy family picture without being sappy and the chemistry between her and Crew is, appropriately and as previously noted, off the hotness charts. All that and an actual plot too? What more can you ask for? Five stars.

First, I gotta say that I've been loving some single dad romances and they may be my current cat nip. There's just something about a man with his kids that melts my heart. And Crew Madden just upped the ante. He not only has one kid, but TWO kids that are twin preteen girls!! Now, that's gotta be hard. But let's get back to the story.

Crew moves him and his two girls, Addy and Paige to a small town after he has a tragic experience on the police force. He needs some down time with his girls. Tennyson is his tenant that lives on his land and she has a secret on why she's living in the small town.

I was immediately intrigued with this possibly being a romantic suspense, but it was just a little side of suspense. I actually wish we got more of Tenny's secret. Her past is sprinkled throughout the story leading up to the end, but that part was actually pretty strong and we could've focused more on that. It played too minor of a part for my liking. I liked that Crew clued into who she was and went with his gut being a police officer and all. But the best parts were when we got Crew, the twins and Tennyson all together. I adored the girls and Crew's love for them. I liked their connection with "Trust Fall" and how it had so much more meaning to them than you know. I may have shed a tear when he shared the meaning with Tennyson.

Of course the reason I love a single dad romance is because of the hero and his kid(s), but having a woman be strong enough to connect with the hero AND the kids makes for that much better of a story. Add in the fact that Tennyson always wanted kids and she became an awesome addition into their family. And the twins thought so too! Just a really good cast of characters.

I decided to listen to this on audio and while I enjoyed the story, I think this book would've been better to physically read. The performances were fine, I just didn't fully feel the connection between the hero and heroine as much as I was hoping

Overall, this was a good story and it appears that it will be the first in the series. While I would've liked to see more suspense, I still enjoyed the feel of the book and cannot wait to catch glimpses of these characters in future books.

Very difficult to write a review on a perfect novel. This stand alone grips you right from the start. Beautifully written. Flows well and encompasses you in romance, drama , intrigue and humour. The characters are all so believable, delightfully described and come alive in print. The two main characters Crew , a very strong protective guy is trying to bring up his twin daughters following , not only trauma in his job as a cop, but the abandonment by his now ex wife to Greece . He decides to move from Chicago to return to his childhood home and stay in his Uncle Ian’s house and for payment repair what is needed to the property and adjoining rented cottage. Tennyson West is a lady who rents said cottage, and has lived there for two years. In that time very few of the repairs have been carried out. However she has assurance that it will be soon by Crew!! She too has a past and remains a semi recluse because of this. The story unfolds, and it is delightful the relationships that build up between Tenny , Paige and Addy. Crew’s twin daughters. There is even a house cat Hani that steals the show. Full of emotions, heartache, flashbacks and dark memories and excellent story. The passion is sizzling , tender and so indulgent, you almost feel there. As ever ‘K’ has written a glorious story to saver and enjoy.

Crew goes back to his uncle's house to spend a few months after a really rough couple of years. There he has to be the tenant of a skittish woman, Tennison.

They have both a difficult past that haunts them, which is one of the things that makes them connect but that can also be what drives them apart.

I loved how Crew was so open with his fears with Tennison, he was a (not often found) a really mature main character, that proves that has learnt along his life.

Tennison has a fear so ingrained that affects most of her decissions in the book, knowing her past, it's really understandable, but It also made me sad knowing that some people have to live like that.

I passed half of the book expecting that Tennison's past would come back in a different way that it did. Once I realized my supposition was not going to happen, and after giving It a bit of thought, I think the author's way of doing It was much better.

I didn't feel an intense chemistry between Crew and Tennison, It was more that slow burn that in a soft way was bringing them together.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun romantic read, with an undercurrent of shoe drop…
Reviewed in Canada on March 17, 2023
This is my first K Bromberg romance, but I’m a sucker for a single daddy, so when it was recommended in one of my book clubs, I decided to dive into Until You.

It was such a lovely break to know that these people just ‘fit’ each other. Their attraction was mutual, flirty, funny, and fun. Of course, Crew is a single dad of identical tweenagers, who are adorably determined, in a totally adult running his life without the angst kind of way, and unlike any other kids I’ve read. Crew is recovering from a traumatic injury from his job as a police detective in the big city. Tenny (Tennyson) is a lovely, level-headed woman who is also on the lam from a relationship, and she does not want to be found.

And yet, they find each other, give each other hope, she loves his kids and him, he loves her. They understand each other and bring out the best in each other because they both understand trauma and fear. Crew is the most non-alpha cop I’ve ever read, but it is so lovely.

Without giving the story away, I can’t tell you why up until almost 90% of the way through the book, I was waiting for the proverbial shoe to drop. But it never happened. it was all resolved with no harm, no foul.
Not that I wanted the characters to risk being hurt, but it always happens that the alpha rescues the damsel in distress. I’ve watched too many movies for them not to be threatened. I even did a bit of ‘research’, but maybe the movies exaggerate? I’ll go with that… I did feel the ending fell a bit flat for me, because I was expecting mayhem, but I’m very happy it was a peaceful and loving conclusion to a very adult and healthy book.

Key Passage:

To knowing that regardless how safe “Peter” says I am, I’ll probably be looking over my shoulder the rest of my life.
“Does it ever get any easier?” I ask him, not exactly expecting him to answer. “You deal with other people like me. Does it ever get any easier for them?”
“At first, no.” His sigh is reticent, his pause weighted. “It’s not easy learning how to move on. To forget who and what you were in order to be this new person you’ve been allowed the chance to be. Through it all, fear is the one constant, but that too, will fade over time. One day you’ll wake up and suddenly realize the fear hasn’t been there for a while. It’s then you’ll realize that you really are Tennyson West.”
“Okay,” I say more to myself than to him.
“You’re safe, Tenny. It’s okay to live your new life.”
