I purchased this last-minute to view the 2024 eclipse, as I had the unexpected opportunity to view it right in the path of totality. I bought this, instead of glasses, because I wanted to have material for both a pair of lenses and for my cameras.

The material worked well for both. I had an old pair of sunglasses with swappable lenses, so I traced the shape of the frame on an index card, then used that to cut out two appropriately-shaped filters, being sure to reverse one so the reflective side would be out on both sides. I didn't bother matching the the curve of the lenses - I just fixed the material on the "inside" between the swappable lens and the frame. I also cut out a circular filter for my camera, and placed it on the inside of a removable lens, and a small rectangle for my smartphone, which I placed between the smartphone's gel case and the camera body.

The material did exactly what it was supposed to do - it filtered out all but a little bit of the sun's light. I could view the entire process of the eclipse from start to finish, watching the black circle of the moon cross in front of it, and was even able to share the glasses with some other people.

It didn't quite work with the cameras. It filtered the light, yes, but unfortunately I didn't quite get the exposure right, leaving the aperture open for too long, so the pictures came out too bright, with little evidence of an eclipse. However, the filter material did its job in blocking the excess sunlight, to be sure.

The material is surprisingly durable, but it does crease easily. Handle it with care, protect it when it isn't in use, and avoid touching it without gloves, or on the part through which you intend to look.

Would recommend. I'm keeping the material and the glasses around for the next time I see the eclipse, whether this is in a couple years or a couple decades.

Used to film progress of the eclipse. Was good.

I used this film to make a solar filter for my binoculars. It's ISO 12312-2 certified and worked perfectly during the pre and post totality phases of the 2024 eclipse. I used a small rectangular cardboard box (an empty Velvetta Cheese box) to fabricate the frame of the filter which allowed for instant removal for the totality phase of the eclipse.

As advertised. Happy with film.

Upon seeing this item, I figured that I could save some money and not purchase an expensive filter for my camera for the one day to view the solar eclipse. Well, the big day arrived, and I went to take a rubber band and attach it to the end of the lens of my camera, only to be disappointed that it wouldn’t stay, and it was wrinkled, and it greatly affected the final picture. I’m sure it’s fine if you are just going to hold it in front of a cell phone or something without trying to physically attach it, but for what I wanted it for it was good.

Built filters for my binoculars with it.. Was slightly bigger than 4x4 inches. This product was on the list of vetted venders by the American Astronomical Society so hopefully it was safe for my eyes.
