Perfect for one person

Perfect for one person
I love this little thing. The size isn't just about portion control (though for one person, that's nice). The smaller area also freezes the icecream better than one of the large ones, and the cups themselves freeze more quickly in your freezer. I've found I can't just add a smaller amount to a larger device for portion control, because it will either freeze to ice too quickly or not at all.But these freeze so well, I just made a mixture of Kiefer, dairy free yogurt, some Xilytol sweetener, and frozen raspberries (pictured). My larger drum icecream maker would never have frozen that mixture because the yogurt doesn't have enough fat. I used to have to add quite a lot of whipping cream to that large drum to make it the right consistancy. These are also so small, on a hot day, I stick it in the fridge while it's turning the icecream just to help keep everything cool.

So I bought this skeptical. How good could this be right? Oh man. So I broke the first set of directions. Let it freeze for 24 hours. I lasted 12 before I decided my deep freezer is more freezer ish than a freezer. I wasn't entirely wrong. I successfully made a decent soft serve/thick milkshake consistency creation with just some chocolate milk. I'll admit, I don't recommend this. It wasn't very tasty.... Best second part of this is it comes with two bowls and thus, a second take on making ice cream in my bedroom with my husband as we hide from children!!!!
I LOVE that it is quiet, the quality seems decent enough. It's very easy to use and understand. With a good bit of practice of the recipe you can have the best ice cream you can make in your bedroom hiding from your kids!!! Best prime day purchase ever!!!!

I REALLY love ice cream, and I REALLY love non-traditional flavours and mix ins. I keep hoping for a home ice cream maker that solves the problem of not needing so much freezer space prior to use. Obviously, this doesn't need as much space as a full size ice cream maker, but, for one serving, it does need a lot. But, still, it's workable a lot of the time. I was amazed that it worked exactly as advertised. Put in the ingredients and turn the motor on, and keep it going until you get the consistency you want. I looked on the web for recipes and advice on how to use it, and they were easy to find and spot on. The company advises if you want really hard ice cream, or if you don't finish what you make in one sitting, you can put it back in the freezer in the bowl. Be careful as this works a little too well and the ice cream will be absolutely rock hard! Still, I think it's good that this will make hard ice cream as some ice cream makers make ice cream that is just too soft for me. The size is also good as you can also experiment with recipes and not have to make an entire multi-serving batch. I tried making cottage cheese ice cream, and, it really wasn't for me, and, I was glad to just have the one serving and not have to waste it and throw it away. As long as you put the bowl in the freezer long enough beforehand, it's really nice to be able to take it out on a whim and make whatever ice cream you want, and, and it really will produce nice ice cream.

I've used this every day this week for making frozen yogurt at the end of the day. I blend fruit (fresh), Greek yogurt, a small amount of coconut milk, almond extract, and sugar in my blender then put it in the fridge to chill till the evening. In the evening, I put together the paddle and motor and plastic bowl cover with chute. I then get out the mug that's been in there for 2 days (I alternate using the 2 mugs) and pour the fruit and yogurt mixture in. I start the paddle going and let it sit on the counter for up to 10 min. Then I use a silicone cake frosting spatula to scoop the soft serve style froyo into a container and then pop it in the freezer for about 5-10 min then eat some. I generally make about 2 cups worth in one mug and it's a little softer than I'd like so freezer it goes. When it comes out of the freezer it's perfect. Really worth it. May not be fancy but much healthier and honestly delicious. I add sprinkles or chocolate chips and whipped cream if I am feeling fancy.

I read the reviews, and thought perhaps the remark that this does not freeze was written by people unfamiliar with the fact that no ice cream maker actually freezes the custard to ice cream consistency. I was wrong.

Ideally, a ice cream maker will create a loose mixture of aerated ice crystals that must be finished off in a freezer to become the right creamy consistency. This machine, by contrast, makes cold soup. When the soup is placed in the freezer to finish off, it turns into a cream-flavored ice cube -- rock hard and impossible to spoon.
I have a larger ice cream freezer by another manufacturer with the exact same type of bowls, a canister filled with some sort of liquid that you put in the freezer ahead of time, so I know what should happen. I think perhaps these cup-sized bowls are too small to hold enough of the freezing medium actually to make ice crystals in the contents. In addition to the failure to freeze the custard, the paddle motor is underpowered and does not aerate the contents, either.

The result is an utter waste of money. Get the larger machine and make smaller batches for portion control.

You have to use the first freezer cup for 20 minutes, then scrape it into the 2nd freezer cup and another 20 minutes to get soft serve texture that you have to eat FAST or it turns to a milkshake. But it is tasty and cheaper than store bought. No preservatives, guar gum, or refined sugar. I use homemade yogurt, vanilla or cocoa, cream, and honey.

You don’t need a recipe! I have tried all kinds of things. I sometimes use half and half, 2%milk, whole milk and once heavy cream. So today I used a half cup of milk. I added a spoonful of cheesecake pudding mix to it and stirred it to dissolve it. Then I popped it into the freezer for 6 minutes to get colder. I am trying NOT to gain weight so I only make a half batch for myself. It was delicious!!!!! Sometimes I add chocolate sauce or use a spoonful of Junket ice cream mix. I get it at my grocery store for $2.50. I add enough to sweeten it like the pudding mix. I don’t cook anything or use eggs or vanilla and don’t like really sweet ice cream. I no longer use the heavy cream or whole milk. I don’t want to get fat! But I can’t wait to make it every day unfortunately. I figure that if I have it for breakfast I can wear off done calories. This thing is amazing. Don’t make yourself crazy looking for recipes or buying expensive ingredients. Keep it simple. This morning I added sliced banana and a little chocolate sauce. BTW the dress on I put the mixture in the freezer for a few minutes is because otherwise it might not be firm enough for you. It comes out perfect!

4.0 out of 5 stars Allergy friendly? Sure but not solid ice cream
Reviewed in Canada on December 31, 2023

We have allergies over here, my husband to dairy and I to soy, so we thought having one of those would be a helpful addition to our family needs. We also are mindful about our sugar intake.

I made an ice cream with kefir yogurt and chocolate chips. It was like a soft serve and satisfying but not ice cream solid.

My daughter made a matcha ice cream with skyr yogurt, a little milk, sugar, matcha powder and chocolate chips. It was a little more solid on the yogurt part but there was still some liquid after 15min. She was eventually happy with the consistency and stopped it.

Like others have mentioned, the bowls do take a huge space but that space used to be for a Zoku.
Comparatively, it performs about the same as the Zoku for a soft serve scoop. The real bonus here is the motor that does the hard work.

I feel the hype is a little higher than the reality but it will probably be well loved over here.
