A Long Time Coming Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

From USA Today and Amazon Charts bestselling author Meghan Quinn, comes a witty take on a romantic comedy classic, My Best Friend's Wedding. Steamy, laugh-out-loud, and full of charm, these two best friends heat up the audio while proving true love might be right in front of you.

Have you ever heard of a man-in-waiting?

Yeah, neither has my best friend's soon-to-be monster-in-law. Ooo, sorry, I meant mother-in-law. Nor has she heard of the term, what the bride wants, the bride gets.

With wedding planning underway and a short timeline, my best friend, Lia, has recruited me to help her battle the snarly beast that is Mrs. Beaver. Not scared at all, I accept the challenge as her man-in-waiting--aka, man of honor--and take matters into my own hands.

The only problem is, with every second we draw closer to the wedding, I'm starting to see my best girl in a different light.

She's always been beautiful to me, but now . . . I find myself staring a touch too long. My hand lingering for one more minute. And when she's upset? Allowing her to sleep in my bed.

And before I know what's happening, it hits me like a ton of bricks. I'm in love with my best friend. Not just in love, but infatuated.

No one compares to her and nothing seems to distract me from that realization.

Not the girl I try to date while I help plan Lia's wedding.

Not her angry fiancé who thinks I'm growing too close.

And not the looming deadline of her nuptials.

Which means, there's only one thing left for me to do. Prove to Lia I'm the one she should be with instead. But with the pressure of her engagement, the stress from her soon-to-be mother-in-law, and the breath-stealing nerves running through me, I'm finding it a lot harder to claim the girl than I would like to admit.

Say a little prayer for me . . .

The perfect conclusion to the Cane Bros!

The perfect conclusion to the Cane Bros!
Meghan Quinn does it again! Unfortunately, I haven't been loving her latest releases... I LOVED A Not So Meet Cute, and sadly didn't love So Not Meant to Be as much (Kelsey was annoying and JP deserved better), but I felt like this series ended on a high note with Breaker and Lia.A friends-to-lovers story about two people who have been friends since college, who bonded over nerdiness and games, who were there for each other when they really needed a friend. That desire to comfort each other through difficult times left them both in the friend zone.As you read, you get the sense that neither Breaker nor Lia ever thought about taking it to the next step... until Lia gets engaged to a man she doesn't even fully love (she doesn't even want to tell Breaker she's engaged and she hates her ring and the groom's mother is insane.... RED FLAGS ALL AROUND). Even though Breaker and Lia never saw their relationship as more, everyone else in their life sees it - their chemistry, their bond, and how they rely on the other in a way someone might rely on their partner. These two were partners even before the MQ spicy spice entered their relationship.Things I loved: MQ spicy spice, the humor, the pop culture references (like Wonder Years), the two best friends playing whatever the latest game is together (it's their thing), getting to see the other main characters from this series as their relationships have blossomed and developed, Lia's bravery, watching Breaker truly pursue Lia with intention, the whole man-of-honor plot line and the outrageous mother-of-the-groom, text messages! Gosh, I'm a sucker for text messages! :)Things I didn't love: THEY WERE ONLY FRIENDS, STRICTLY, FOR NEARLY 70% OF THE BOOK (and therefore, I didn't really feel like Lia had feelings behind the walls she erected to keep her and Breaker AS JUST FRIENDS ONLY - I just never felt like she had FEELINGS for Breaker that scared her until he started to make moves on her? Maybe I'm alone in this feeling, but maybe not?), the humor sometimes just goes a little bit too far, Kelsey being annoying again...Featured here are both editions of this book. I love that Meghan has started producing illustrated editions of these books! Some of the illustrations are NSFW, and some are just downright sweet. I love to be able to visualize both situations!

I need to begin by explaining that I have not read the other Cane books ( A Not So Meet Cute and So Not Meant To Be). I don’t feel like I missed out on anything by reading this one first- it can absolutely be read as a stand-alone novel. That said, characters from both books do play a large part in this book and I ended up falling in love with them. I have already started Huxley’s story and will be reading JP’s as well.

Now then, let’s get started. I loved the friendship between these two, even if it blurred a lot of lines (you let her sleep in your bed in the past and didn’t realize you loved her?). The story of their meeting at the Secret Scrabble Society, with her just being brutal and him taking it with a smile is hilarious. I love Breaker for the fact that, even though he liked her, the second she said she wanted a friend he decided that that was what he’d be. For ten years. To the point that he thought he had given up those feelings. Seriously, I can’t even imagine. Their taco dates, Password marathons and game nights were adorably charming. I loved their interactions.

I also loved that once he finally figured out his feelings, he was still going to let her be with whoever she wanted; was going to be whatever she wanted. The fact that he was still her best man, picking dresses and cakes by her side and shielding her from Brian’s mother was the sweetest thing. Getting advice from his brothers (and some help from the absolute best hype-men ever), he went about trying to show her that they could have everything. Their friendship, the things they enjoyed, didn’t necessarily have to change… just evolve. Tacos might lead to sex now.

This was a fun, fast read that I didn’t want to put down. Even though it was well over 400 pages it felt short. I wanted more. Now, when the relationship evolved there were long, explicit sex scenes (level six spice), but there was still a good story. I feel like sometimes when the main characters discover their feelings the plot takes second place… I can honestly say that I didn’t find that to be true here. Add to that, the eARC I recieved has black and white sketches! (Most are extremely tame.) Now I want that for all the books. Weirdly, the eBook currently on Kindle Unlimited doesn’t have these. I don’t know if it’s because this was a different publisher, if there will be a new eBook edition, or if this will be in the new edition of the paperback… or if it will be there at all. If it isn’t, I think I am going to miss it.

For me, this is a five star book.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Rating: 5 out of 5.
As far as adult content goes, there is language, drinking, sexual content, and bullying. This one is definitely geared towards adults.

I was lucky enough to receive an eARC of this book courtesy of Netgalley and Sourcebooks in exchange for an honest review. My thanks.

Meghan Quinn is a go to fav author. This book was well on its way to a 5 star book but what stopped it for me was the near end & ending. I did not feel Lia ever really had a significant “ah-ha” moment. When she does make her declaration, as well as acknowledge her slowness to recognize it all, it’s not only weak, but too closely tied to her ex. Breaker certainly has a major ah-ha & wow! what an awesome boyfriend he becomes - although, he was already an amazing bff. By the end, I just didn’t feel Lia was as crazy about Breaker as he was her. Certainly she wanted to be with him and was in-love, but there wasn’t the same intensity as his affection & commitment, nor did she seem to really be able to recognize what they truly had. She had way more regard for her ex, even in the end, than he deserved and her commitment to such an unhealthy relationship was confusing & frustrating.

Spoiler detail: I’ll try to be vague but still get across the point because this was the real stumper for me. Nearing the end, Lia has a conversation with her ex and he indicates, with ifs and buts, they might have been able to make it. She agrees! That one line really bothered me. At that point, I no longer liked Lia and she just never really redeemed herself from there. I felt bad for Breaker. Also, she never seemed to realize what being married to another man would mean to her relationship with Breaker. I guess by the end, I just felt she was a clueless, emotionally naive, somewhat selfish person. The convo with the ex could have, should have been her Ah-ha moment. If she really got that Breaker has always been her one, she would have realized no, she & her ex would not have made it. This is a small part of the story, but it obviously bothered me.

I get how some readers think the burn is too slow & that it would have been nice to see more of them together romantically. I think maybe part of why that feeling is there is because again, we just don’t get enough of Lia’s realization that they are more than friends. But, their dynamic is well developed & the reader can certainly see these two for who/what they really are. It’s an interesting arc and fun to be on the outside looking in.
The ex is pathetic and his mother is horrid. I was thrilled when Lia finally stood up to them. Their characters are an interesting part of the story.

I do love Breaker & Lia’s relationship. They are awesome together and are so meant for one another. And, whew! Breaker is a top book bf. When they get together, it is hot, steamy & super sexy. While it is a slow burn, it is also an enjoyable one to read as it’s building. I was happy to get Breaker’s story and was so happy for his hea. The cameos from previous books are fun but are no problem if you haven’t read the previous stories. Another fun MQ book!
