Easy install and effective! Other reviews complained about a gap using the foam blocks, I've got very little gap and the window is open anyhow so don't think it'll matter. It fits just fine with the screen down in the window as there's clearance in my window.
No it doesn't move air like a big box fan however it does move air. Set this up at the hottest part of the day in a window facing the late afternoon sun and it cooled down the living room 5 degrees within 30 minutes, room is approximately 12 x 12. Thermostat feature is fantastic! It reached just below my set temperature and noise on highest setting was extremely minimal.
Took a week to arrive although was told it would arrive next day as apparently UPS lost the package and I could have bought closer to my workplace but I decided to wait and honestly I wished I bought another for my kitchen window. It's pricey but definitely worth the cost!
I have yet to try the exhaust feature but will have to at some point and will update my review.

cool design and lower power use, some flaws
The sort of window fan you use instead of the AC, designed to move air a good distance, with a minimum of noise. It's very short and comes with blocks to help seal off the open window for a "seasonal" install. It feels modern, but has design quirks / issues despite its premium pricing.Very low power use, just 25W at setting 1, and 30W at setting 4 (max). That's half of the draw of my old favorite Bionaire product. Standby draw with the unit switched off measured at 0.3W. Which is good.It uses a cylinder type of fan blade, like their vertical fans, instead of broad/flat "propeller" blades of a traditional fan.Like:* Unlike other fans, the power usage stays within this small range regardless of setting* Runs quiet at settings 1-3* Propels air a great distance across the room* The rubber blocks and internal baffles decrease unwanted airflow when it's off* Low-brightness display isn't overly glaring for living areas* Long cord* Would fit in most windowsDislikes or concerns:* No "lip" to brace against the top window. Makes it feel a bit precarious in my ca.1998 Anderson windows. Pushing on it moves the fan.* No top handle (usually an indentation) only on the sides. So no one-handed carry.* A lot of vibration inside the unit (which translates to some noise and possible long-term mechanical issues) though most is absorbed by the top-and-bottom built-in foam blocks.* No temperature display if you're not using the temp setting without nudging the controls. Being able to check if it's effectively cooling (at a glance) is very useful, so this is a weird omission.* No max temperature setting. That is, I want it to stop running if it's hot outside (like I left it on during a summer day) and resume when it's cooler out again, just like the optional lower bound stops it from running when it's cold inside. The point of this design is to leave it in the window, so the less manual adjustments, the better.* Unclear how much volume of air it moves. (versus the good velocity)* Internal baffles do not close the fan off, though it's not open "directly" through the unit. Actually having shutters close when the fan stops running would make this an even better substitute for a window AC unit.* No way to aim the airflow upwards (or mount it upside down). Bouncing airflow off the ceiling can make for better whole-room cooling if you're not doing passthrough airflow.I've had a lot of experience with Vornado products AND this is the Wirecutter choice for window fans, so I had high expectations. I've also used Wirecutter's 2nd choice Bionaire every summer for years, even before it was their recommendation.It's great to see a new design and different form factor than usual, but its flaws suggest there was no prototype testing phase. Ie, nobody tried carrying the device around?I only dock one star because the low power use makes up for the clumsiness, but it could be better at this price.

Follow up:
As loud as it is; I leave it on all the time. Even in winter, it exhausts hot air from my place. There is water heater baseboards in my apartment that have no sensor, so it really makes it more comfortable. The non Alexa has survived 2 months, 16 days of being on in the winter. but would the Alexa version? Almost worth it to program it to intake for short 30 second bursts, and then go back to exhaust.
Second Follow up:
This fan gets quieter over time, and has about the same performance!
Found some 3mm dust filter medium, am making a steel/plastic fan filter holder which connects to the fan on either side; for the fan, when it gets dusty merely blows dust around. I could tell my cats were being annoyed by the dust. I used some thin scrub pads for the mean time adhered by black duct tape; and their eyes are much less irritated.
