    I love this camera, I got it so I could keep an eye on my dog plus the house when I’m not home and it’s perfect. I also love the privacy shield, I like that when I’m home I can physically see on the camera that it’s not on!!

    These have reasonably good video for the price and set up isn't particularly difficult if you read the directions carefully. You have to have a pretty strong WIFI signal and your phone has to be on the same WIFI that the cameras are paired with to set them up initially. After that you get alerts where ever you are regardless of whether you are on WIFI or not. You have a lot of control over that sort of thing including who you allow to see the camera feed. Tech support is a little hard to get a hold of but once you get ahold of a real human being you can general get the help you need.

    Purchased the indoor essential gen 1 to communicate with my fur baby. Works GREAT she can hear me lol and I can see what she's been up too while I'm at work. Love it would highly recommend

    The camera worked great the first few weeks I had it. Then it quit pushing motion alerts to my phone. Multiple contacts with Arlo Tech Support have been unsuccessful in getting it to work. I've done everything they suggest, on the Arlo app as well as my iPhone. The camera video and audio feed to my phone work great; it just won't push motion alert notifications, which is the primary reason I bought the camera.

    I would not recommend this product.

    EDIT - I changed my rating to four stars. My iPhone updated the iOS version last night, and this morning the camera is once again sending me motion notification alerts as it did when new. Either the Arlo tech support people did something, or the previous iOS version glitched on my phone, because without changing any of my notification settings, it once again works. Hopefully it will keep working this time.

    I had issues with this camera and the Arlo app the minute I took it out of the box. First, I struggled to get the camera set up because the app wouldn't move past the "name your camera" step (I finally just typed the number 1 as my camera name and that worked). Once the camera was up and running (ish), the ability to close the privacy lens from my phone wouldn't work consistently. A couple days later, numerous controls - including the device on/off control - were mysteriously missing from my app. My camera was on for several hours, and I got a notification every time my dog moved (he moves a lot. That's why I bought the camera - to keep an eye on my pup). My ability to control the camera remotely (i.e. using the app) fluctuated all day, even after I uninstalled/reinstalled the app and restarted the camera.

    Each time I contacted Arlo's customer support, they told me everything looked fine on their end, then they started a problem ticket and sent me an email with a link to a troubleshooting guide for the issues I was having (the only point of the problem ticket seems to be so Arlo customer support can send you a troubleshooting email and then claim that they tried to help you). None of the troubleshooting worked. And the cherry on top was that Arlo kept sending me emails asking me to update my ticket, and when I tried, after hitting "Submit," I was immediately redirected to a "Page Unavailable" screen. Twice.

    If you're looking for an unreliable camera/app and you like having to be your own customer service, then by all means, purchase this dumpster fire of a product. But if you want something that actually works, I would recommend trying another brand. That's my plan.

    The Arlo Essential Camera was easy to set up and performs beyond my expectations. Very reasonably priced as well. I especially like the privacy screen. Its alerts are consistent. I can check on my apartment wherever I am. Great customer service. Win,Win!

    I have a pre-existing Arlo system with three Pro3 cameras, a doorbell, and a VMB4540 SmartHub, and I wanted to add a camera to keep an eye on our dog when he's left alone in the house. The wired Essential Indoor camera was the camera I wanted to add. Following are that things that I couldn't find answers to on the Arlo web site.

    1. The USB cord (comes with a wall plug adaptor) that comes with the camera is 6 ft long.

    2. The Essential Indoor camera does work seamlessly with the VMB4540 SmartHub. Setup using my phone and the Arlo app was driven by prompts that were easy to follow.

    3. I couldn't find anything on the web site that stated that the Essential Indoor camera would work the same as my other cameras with the SmartHub without an Arlo Secure subscription. That is, the Essential Indoor camera records to the SmartHub based on motion detection, just like the other cameras. Note that I do not subscribe to Arlo Secure, so if I want to review any saved videos I have to remove the USB thumb drive from the SmartHub and look at saved videos on my computer. That's ok, because I only really want to be able to monitor the dog.

    One other thing that I will add is that during setup there is a prompt to update the firmware. I'm not sure if this relates to the SmartHub or the camera. I had to retry the update about 20 times before it finally took. I looked at the update titles and they were all the same filename, so it wasn't successive updates. It just didn't seem to take. I will note that when it finally went through I had moved my phone closer to the SmartHub. I don't know if that mattered because after moving closer it still required a couple of tries before it took.

    Overall, I'm happy with the camera and other than the glitchy firmware update setup was easy.

    After struggling to get the camera up and running the Arlo rep was able to figure out that our router simply needed to be restarted. Perhaps that could be in the installation instructions? It’s an easy fix. Works beautifully now.

    Was a pain to setup. Had had to keep unplugging the device and go through the setup steps before it took. Keeps losing connection when trying to use the speaker and becomes unresponsive for 3-5 minutes before I can even see the live feed again. Does this for all my cameras. Either all my units are junk or something wrong with the software in general. Both mine and my wife phones, different models have this issue. Night vision is actually pretty good
