The only thing that would make this story better was if it was LONGER! I throughly enjoyed this novella. It was sweet. It was a quick read. And oh so sweet. I know I said that already.

I have been patiently waiting to read this novella. I purchased this on 8/18/20. So it's been over a year. I always wait to read a series after the final book is out. I am now, finally able to read this series since Beat by Beat is out. And I am super happy. Very excited.

I liked Jace. I liked him in Emphatic. I liked Samantha (I hope she was in Remedy). There is a Samantha in Remedy, I just don't know if it's the same character. Jace wasted no time going after Samantha. It starts off with a year passing after he started chasing her. I liked them together.

It was good to hear from Soul Serenade. They all had cameos. Cole/Stacey- Assured. Tristan/Lauren- Definite. Gavin/Cassidy- Insistent. Logan/Kacen- Emphatic.

Nice job. Excellent job. Nice start.

Side note- Quinn Biddle is very nice looking. He is the cover model.

Play by Play is a fun and sweet prequel novella. I loved getting to know Jase and Samantha, but also getting an introduction to some new characters of an all new series from Kaylee.

Jase has retired from sports, he is wanting to settle down and has his eyes on Samantha. I loved his determination, it never felt too much or forced. He was committed to her and has been for some time, now he just needed to prove it to her. Samantha knows Jase wants her, however, she thinks he is a player, she doesn’t want to give him a chance and waster her time on someone who won’t be serious.

I am new to Kaylee Ryan. I read Southern Pleasure in the Small Town Summer anthology and want to read more by this author.
Play by Play is a short novella introducing the readers to the Riggins brothers series and serves as a prequel. This story focuses on Jase, a former football player and player of women. Jase isn’t one of the Riggins brothers; he is best friends with Royce Riggins. Although this is a novella, I don’t feel like Kaylee rushes their relationship because Jase has been trying for a year to convince Samantha to take him seriously and prove to her that he isn’t the womanizer he used to be. I love that they promise to communicate openly and with complete honesty.
Kaylee introduces us to all of the Riggings brothers and builds a romantic and sweet relationship between her main characters. I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading about the rich, handsome Riggins brothers.

The h works for the H's bestie. The H is a retired football player and has been trying to get the h to go out with him for the past year. She rebuffs him because she thinks he is a flirt and a player. He keeps trying to have her see that he is serious about her. He finally manages to get her to go out with him after he plants his phone at his friend's office after a visit. He was speculating that his friend would have the h drop it off by his place which he did. The h was in for a big surprise...sigh..a picnic inside his home. The two finally start going out and yes, a HEA.

I loved the uber possessive H and the feisty h. She kept him on his toes. It was a very cute short read. I wish it were longer. The H's sister was from the Soul Serenade series. She married the lead singer in the band. It was nice to catch up to the band members.

I dinged the story because there was not enough character or relationship development. There was no discussion of their backgrounds. It went from zero to 180.

Play-by-play is exactly what you would expect from a prologue.

A he falls first, instant love, happily ever after story. You have a whole book crammed into a dozen chapters. I would’ve loved to have Jase and Sam’s story spread out a little bit more, but still enjoyed it. I will continue reading the rest of the series.
