Pros:
- easy to operate
- easy to clean
- makes ice cream/frozen yogurt in 20 minutes or less.
- the few recipes I tried in the instruction booklet were excellent.
- easy to set up, no rock salt or ice needed. (hint: don't pour into the spout with a bowl, I found it less messy to pour from a batter bowl or a large measuring cup.)
- reasonably priced
Cons:
- you have to freeze the inside container (they recommend 24 hours, but I found overnight was fine), which means you either have to plan ahead or take up freezer space to store it there. I have another freezer, so that was fine with me.
- the iced confections do adhere to the inside of the frozen container - I used a flat scoop to scrape it off the side, and ended up scratching the inside. This hasn't impacted the performance, but the inside is beaten up- so use a non-abrasive scoop.
Good to know:
-this can only hold 1 1/2 quarts of ice cream. So you need to pay attention to the recipe quantity.
- the cover does come apart from the motor for easy cleaning. I hand washed, but put the paddle in the dishwasher.
- an ice cream recipe I made took the full 20 minutes, but the yogurt took about 15-16- so you shouldn't leave the device un-attended after its been running awhile.
I definitely want to get one that has a safer inner lining or perhaps I just need to not use metal on the bowl but either way, definitely something to be aware of when using this.
I will also say you definitely want the bowl to be as cold as possible and making the ice cream in small batches is best to get a real ice cream consistency but hey it sure tasted good!
Tips-
- don't use metal utensils in the bowl
- have your ice cream base ready before you take the bowl out of the freezer and immediately start mixing it
- if the ice cream machine has turned off/said it's done but the cream isn't the consistency you want, have no fear! Just turn it back on and let it run some more
I don't want to send the machine back if I don't have to. I DO want a NEW freezer bowl and not one that is apparently used or broken as you can see in the shot I've uploaded of what I received. The inside of the bowl is not lavender or purple. My plant light in my kitchen skewed the color. It's silver like it's supposed to be.
I really would appreciate if the company would step up to the plate and not make me call Amazon--although I'm certainly willing to at this point. This is just wrong! My excitement obviously fizzled, and I haven't even tried to make ice cream yet! Like another person said, I too was thrilled to get a Cuisinart product. Boy oh boy did that eagerness fizzle!
UPDATE: The replacement Tasty by Cuisinart arrived on the 15th of February. That one had a triangular warping inside the cylinder. I immediately repacked the 2nd one and Amazon refunded the money. I got an ice cream maker from a different manufacturer and I'll at last freeze the bowl this weekend. So far, no problems and I don't expect there to be any. Tasty by Cuisinart did *not* live up to the Cuisinart name.
