Dumbbell broke in less than one year - however seller replaced broken unit

Dumbbell broke in less than one year - however seller replaced broken unit
We purchased two of these dumbbells's in June 2021 for use in our home gym. We liked the adjustable feature and they worked well initially. However, for the dumbbell to function, it relies on 4 small plastic/rubber pieces. Please see the two photo's. One of the small plastic/rubber pieces just snapped off and this makes the whole dumbbell unusable. There were originally 4, you will see 3 in the photo plus the space where one snapped off. Once it breaks - the whole weight locks and you are unable to use it or move it forward after the first small piece breaks off. Very expense weight to rely on the plastic/rubber. It may just be a case of single defective unit. We are unable to reach the seller currently - unclear if they warranty the unit for 12 months or not. Of our two dumbbells, one of the two is broken thus far. The other one works. Will update this review if the seller replaces the broken unit. Otherwise, caveat emptor! ***UPDATE - Seller replaced the broken unit at no cost to us and the replacement is working fine thus far - changing review from 1 star to 3 star. It may have been just a single defective unit.***

Perfect set of dumbbells. Great quality. I have the 25 lb set (same brand). I used it last year during covid and they worked perfect. Now I need to increase the weight as my work out program is different this year. I’m really happy with the quality and the whole concept of just having one pice of equipment that allows me to have 5 in 1. It worth the money for me. Super fast delivery and you can see the packing.

I used this regularly for several months without issue, but it recently broke after being set down (not dropped) and a piece snapped off inside one weight. Now it only goes to 44lbs max and I am concerned after reading other reviews that discs will slip off mid use.

Not great for an expensive product. There are better options elsewhere.

I wanted an adjustable dumbbell for a very small space. This product is a perfect match. It's very easy to adjust, and it's out of the way when you're not using it. Seems relatively sturdy considering it's adjustability.

Good functional set of weights. Exactly what I thought it would be. The screw on either end of the dumbells is fairly smooth and spins nicely. Sturdy construction but definitely not indestructible. Instructions included give recommendations on how to clean.

The only thing I like is the price, but it goes back to the old saying. "You get what you pay for." At first I was perfectly happy with these. But after several uses (maybe 10) the weights started to fall off during use. Of course it happens when they are above me. I have always treated this with care (no dropping off slamming) I am an HVAC service tech, I know how things work and can fix problems. I do it all day everyday. The problem with these: design, material and way they're manufactured. The only way these will be safe to continue using is if I turn them upside down while raising them above my body so that the plate literally cannot fall off as the plates are shaped like a U. As most of you probably know through common sense, paying attention to this or even trying to accomplish this during a good workout is a little bit difficult. You hold weights at all kinds of different angles for different exercises. How do you plan to keep that U shaped plate in the upward position every time? Is that even possible? Do you want to spend money on a product that you even need to think about safety? I don't. I'd rather spend the extra money for something safe that I can pick up and use it however I want. I attached a couple videos to prove what I am saying. This could quite possibly be a lawsuit, but I'm not that guy. I'll just cut my losses and buy a different brand.

Overall, decent adjustable dumbbell.

The good: the handles are wide like traditional dumbbells, so the weight section never cuts into your wrist during movement. The plates don't shift or rattle around during your movement. Reasonable pricing (fyi, these are sold individually) for adjustable dummbells.

The bad: the handles have poor grip surface (plastic coated handle with groves that only run parallel with the handle, so no grip if doing vertical movement like hammer curls. Grip is okay for normal curl or bench press movement). B/c the plates have a slot on one side, the dumbbell is slightly nonuniform in weight distribution, so it can feel a bit off balance during some types of movements. Not a big deal as you can adjust/compensate for it, but something to note. The internal component that holds the plates in place is made of thick plastic. You won't want to drop these or lay them down hard. I'd be concerned that over time, the plastic holding the plates in might wear down and allow a plate to drop during exercise. Jury is still out on durability. So far, I lay them down as softly as I can on gym matting.

Overall: decent three star b/c noone has really cracked the code on a good adjustable dumbbell design (including the big name companies). I might check out the Snode adjustable dumbbell next time. It looks to have a much better design, but I didn't see it at the time I was shopping around.

I thought these might be gimmicky and not so stable, but they are perfect for home use. They don’t rattle at all and the weight distribution is great. Very pleased.

Updating my review - 3 months later. I was contacted by someone at the company that said they were sorry for the issue and offered a replacement product. After multiple emails and me telling them I sent back the product they insisted they send me another one. I said Ok and upgrading my rating by 1 star for having a customer service response. It still does not change my opinion that the product has a design flaw and is dangerous that a plate can slip out.

I bought the entire FlyBird set up. 2 of these weights and the bench. I read all the reviews and most were positive, then I read through the 1 stars. Many folks in the 1 star ratings complained of plates falling out of the dumbbell handle. Well I ended up having he same experience. I unpacked the sets and they seem to be in good shape. I played with dial on the first one to ensure it was working correctly, no issues on all weight sizes pulling it out of the base each time and using.

The second unit did the same, I started at 11lbs and as soon as I picked up the handle one of the two plates fell out. I proceeded to turn the unit over and put the plate back in and it snapped back into place after depressing the release button. Put it back and tired it again, no issue, then checked all the other sizes on the dial. It happened again (same plate) a few tries later, fixed it again. The next day did a work out and the same plate fell out two more times during my workout. I know now how to fix it but it is really is a hazard. Now I don't trust the system. My belief is that the one not working correctly I don't trust the units. The quality seems to be very good and easy to use but will another plate (or the same one) fall out on my foot or worse, my head.

My guess is that one of the dumbbells got damaged in shipping potentially breaking something internally in the product. I have contacted the company several days ago but have not heard anything back. Many reviews had a similar experience and said the company helped them, but not my experience so far.
