These are the best pruner for the money I have yet used.
I like the no frills aspect of the tool. They are really quite sharp. Not Okatsune sharp, but sharp enough to cut hands. Ouch!
I also have the Okatsune 104 pruner that costs roughly 3.5x the price of this model. Considering the price premium this set makes more sense to perhaps most gardeners. My 80 y/o mom tried both pairs and the Okatsunes cut only a bit better for her. She wondered why the Japanese pruners were so much more money.
That says a lot. One of the best things about this pruner compared to most other bargain pruners is the spring. A real coil spring is so much nicer than the volute spring common to many pruners. This is especially helpful if cleaning.
The feel in the hand is good, and the locking mechanism (formed wire) can be opened by dragging down a clothed thigh if need be.
The bright red color should aid in recovery should one forget where they cut last; and the stamped steel handles are certainly adequate.
The only thing that remains to be determined are the blade's ability to hold an edge for a long while, and ease of sharpening. I have cut many hundreds of stems and branches and they are holding up extremely well.
I do not miss the Okatsune pruner when I pocket this set and foray into the gardens. I still adore the fine Japanese tool, but other than snobbery and a really small increase in ultimate cutting power, you give up nothing with this tool.
11.07.2019 Edit: Having cut thousands of stems and small branches with the pruner, my initial commentary stands with the addition of a blade-sharpness-over-time addition. The pruner is in remarkably-still-sharp shape. I thought they might be getting a wee bit dull, but my mom(80 y/o as above) told me they are as sharp when she went at an errant bit of Forsythia as the day I let her first try them. I am going to start reviewing pruners on a more thorough basis replete with comparisons in 2020. As for now, this model is the budget champ by quite a lot. I have tried collected some other budget pruners and none compare favorably to this tool.
