Without an umbrella, stable. With an umbrella, not matter how light weight, still not enough weight to hold it’s own. Would work best either anchored to a railing or inside a table. One light wind and it can easily be taken down.

I bought a 12' umbrella and the wind picks it up. You need one of these. I filled mine with pea gravel, because that's what I had. Works great, sturdy and big enough to hold a lot of weight. Getting another one so I can leave one on the deck and another one in the front so I can sit on the driveway in the evening.

If you don't have a lot of wind and your umbrella is no larger than 9', this is a good, inexpensive stand. Fill it with water and it's pretty stable. I gave it 5 stars because it's pretty good for the money. If you have wind extremes (more that a little breeze) I would recommend a sturdier stand.

This does not have the double clamping screw "update" as advertised; the bottom plate does not mate with the interlocking features. I have a simple 9ft diameter market umbrella and the stand could not even hold this upright under a lightly windy day. I purchased my umbrella a few days before the stand. the failure of the stand to hold up my umbrella ruined my brand new umbrella. .2 of the umbrella spokes bent beyond use and it fell on a bed of rocks. I returned the stand for a full refund. Unfortunately I could not return my umbrella... :(
