After 10 minutes of average use right out of the box, the outer netting layer of the sponge was already shredded in multiple locations. I do like the product, but if it gets this destroyed during it's first use, I can't imagine that it will hold up to any kind of long term use. I'm unlikely to purchase again unless this was just a fluke.

I don't use metal on my pans, I don't want to take whatever kind of finish it has off (steel wool scrapes the metal, and even if you only use stainless steel, the nickel will leach into your food; alumium will regardless, so it's taboo in my house). Hubby and I had wars where he would buy steel wool pads and I'd throw them out the door. The plastic on these pads is thick enough that it acts as an abrasive, and it actually works really well on most stuck on food as long as you soak the pans first. I put it into the dishwasher to be cleaned whenever I run it and simply rinse well when I take it out (because the sponge retains water, as sponges do). Using these pads were one of the few takeaways from my (first) marriage. ;)

In our area of NE Ohio, there is not one brick and mortar that I go to that sells the original Dobie pads anymore. Don't get me wrong, I do like their newer purple ones that are easy to clean BUT they are also not up to heavy cleaning like stuck-on food. I've been using my old ones for so long that they are disintegrating. I checked amazon and there they were, in a nice pack of 6 boxes, 2 pads in each box! Please 3M don't stop carrying these on amazon. There is no other pad that I like that does the heavy-duty stuff, does not wreck your pans (thinking steel wool here) AND is easy to clean (comparing other pads made from similar material).

Whilst travelling in Japan in March '23, I bought some netted sponges. They are quite thick (2cm) and a good size (8cm x 15cm) and I've not seen an equivalent here in Australia. I tried to find an equivalent on Amazon, but nothing quite matched. However, there were some great reviews of the Dobie Pads and so I bought a 6x2 pack. They are great scourers for use on pans and pots.

The Japanese sponges come out fresh from the washing machine, the Dobie's not quite so much. I admit, I use them harder on the pans, but still hoped for a little more. This means the will probably last less before being tossed. It would be great if they were slightly larger as well.
