We bought this umbrella for our 9x12 porch on the back of our home. It just barely fits, but it tilts if we want a little more room. The material is thick enough to shade from the bright sun and still allow enough light to read. The crank to raise and lower the umbrella can be a bit tricky. The first time that we raised the umbrella we didn't think we could get it back down. Then we realized that the arrows had switched so that turning the crank in the direction that it said was "up" actually was "down." We laughed about that after we contacted the seller (helpful and quick response) and they confirmed that the cord was just on a spool and if it got wound the wrong way, things were backwards. Oh well. No harm done. We bought a base to go with the umbrella. The base is heavy and the umbrella seems stable with it. But, because we worried about the umbrella tipping off the porch or into the glass door, I fashioned a clamp to secure it to the railing. A mighty wind might still send it sailing, but so far, with it closed, it hasn't gone anywhere. We tied a ribbon to hold it closed, it would have been nice if there was one sewn onto the outside of the material.It may not last forever, but we sure are enjoying it now. My wife just really likes this thing.

I bought two so they would match when they are both open. They are sturdy the crank to open them is easy to use, the tilt feature is nice. The fabric is thick and should last several seasons. They come with a tie to close when they are not in use. Along with the storage bag for winter storage. I wouldn't leave them up all year, at least not where you have all 4 seasons, I would expect that to decrease their longevity. Overall very happy with these umbrellas.
