I literally just opened mine, so this is only going to be an initial reaction. This is my first yoga mat, as well, so I am very new to this and far from being an expert.The texture and firmness feels very similar to the ones that were about $30-$50 when I was shopping at Target and Dick's Sporting goods.I know it is very silly, but I would also like to point out the color as well. Typically when I order something purple from online, it is more on the red/pink side, which I am not a huge fan of. However, this one is very close to the picture that they provided us as well.If I can remember, I will update this after a decent amount of use. Give you guys an idea on the durability of the material and color.Given the price of this and similar at the stores I had mentioned, I feel like it's at least a good option for someone just starting. Get it to try it out, that way you're out less money when you give up on working out at home (ornjist in general.)Take that for what you will.

So far, I really like it.

When I first got it it had that layer of slippery that most of these mats have and a slight "new" smell, also typical, in my experience, with mats made of this material. Given that I was in no rush to use it, it stood in a corner rolled loosely for a couple of weeks, and by the time I stretched it out on my befroom floor and started walking on it and using it at home (to get rid of the slippery before I used it at the studio), the smell was gone. My palms tend to sweat a lot and the first few times I used it at home I had to dry my hands every so often, but the slippery layer didn't take long to go away (I used it for my home practice maybe four times before I took it to the studio). I didn't wash it.

If you're in a hurry to use it as soon as you get it, it's likely that you'll find it slippery and that the mat will still have that "new" smell that bothers some people, but if you can, I recommend letting it air for a few days (probably doesn't need to be as long as I let it).

The 6.2mm is just perfect. I would have been content with 5mm, but I like the 6.2mm a lot! It's cushion enough that knees don't hurt when kneeling, but also stable for standing and balancing poses.

It is a bit heavier than I was used to (the mat I replaced with this one was 4mm and shorter) but it's not so heavy that it can't be carried around... well, I don't mind, anyway. The extra length, I don't really care either way 'cos I'm not exactly tall and I don't mind if my head sticks out of the mat...

The only thing I don't like is that the thin vertical and horizontal lines that make the pattern are not parallel/perpendicular to the edges of the mat... it's like the machine that cut the material was at an angle (small angle) in relation to the material, so it looks a bit crooked to me. I wish it weren't, but being honest, I have seen maybe one mat with this patters that was cut "right" (with the lines parallel/perpendicular to the edges) and it was mine, which I hand picked for that very same reason. I'm a bit anal about 90º angles and straight lines. :P

Anyway, so far (I haven't been using it at the studio for long, maybe two weeks?) I like it. I think the description of the product is accurate, I wasn't expecting anything more or anything less... we had no problem with the delivery, either. We'll see how it goes with more use, in time, but if all goes well it should last me at least two years.

this is a follow up review after using this mat a few times. Initially I gave 5 stars to this mat soon after I received it just from the feel of it. But after using it a couple of times, I find its short coming. It is quite slippery. I don't know why but I find my feet slipping when I do the warrior poses and down dog. Some of the reviewers mentioned that issue but I thought they probably did not know how to do the poses. But I find that to be quite bothersome. I will contact the seller and find out if there is any thing to remedy the situation.

My two yoga mats are several years old and they are showing their age. So I looked up Amazon and found this mat with great reviews. I wanted a mat not too thin or too thick, high density, and has good grip. This mat satisfies all those specs I have been looking for. Beautiful slate color, and did not notice any odors like some reviewers mentioned. Perfect thickness, and high density, very firm - no squish at all. Kind of heavy due to high density but don't mind a bit. I am going to use my old mat as under mat to give me the cushion I need for my knees and elbows.This is a steal for the price, so glad I found it with Amazon.
