The absolute slap-in-the-face moment for me was the support of Barry Goldwater support for segregation and that's it was not a racist attempt on African Americans, but more support for private companies (defended by the authors in chapter 1). Really? I wanted to throw the book in the garbage, but I didn't, I was determined to be the better person. The next slap in the face was how affirmative action has been a disserve to African Americans and given them permission to be pro-entitlement welfare recipients, of course no facts to back this up. Yeah, good luck with that and winning over black support for the republican brand with that rhetoric. I can affirm with President Obama re-election and 98% support from Africans American in 2012, tells me I'm the not the only one that has been offended by republicans lack of understanding to the concerns of the black community. Maybe stop with the stereotypes and offer real solutions. The solution is not bashing affirmative action and support of private companies to discriminate.
In the end, I finished the book. I had more knowledge of how the conservatives viewed themselves. The book determined my ever support for the democratic party. I'm more proud to be a blue-dog liberal than ever before. Upon completion of reading the last line in the book, I threw the book across the floor. Childish yes, regret of my position, NO
A good and informative read.
