And on your right, ladies and gentlemen, please observe The Conservative (Conservitus Americanus). This fascinating species in-habits vast territories across middle America, but rarely reveals itself in coastal urban areas. It is commonly believed to be uptight, humorless, and devoid of compassion, and is often characterized as racist, homophobic, and highly eco-unfriendly. Primary behaviors include unnecessary warmongering, tax cutting, and gun collecting. For decades, conservatives have proven to be hopelessly un-hip, and their mating habits dull. They are highly feared and often despised, for so few know and understand their true nature.

Get ready to meet the conservative next door or in the office down the hall, the person you never thought in a million years was one of "them." Lively, witty, and thought-provoking,
Why You're Wrong About the Right blows the lid off the stereotypes that have long been associated with the American Right, and reveals the face of today's conservatives: an intellectually and philosophically diverse new breed of young, outgoing, smart, friendly professionals who live and work among liberals everywhere!

Themselves closet conservatives in Leftoid Land (aka Manhattan), S. E. Cupp and Brett Joshpe inject their own unique and colorful points of view into an honest dialogue on conservative ideas in American life and popular culture, and draw from interviews with a roster of renowned writers and political personalities, including Tony Stewart, Tucker Carlson, Brian C. Anderson, Laura Ingraham, Pat Toomey, David Horowitz, Ted Hayes, and many more.

Undercover conservatives, reveal your true colors with pride! Liberals, hug a conservative today! And whichever side you find yourself on, you'll be engaged, surprised, and happily re-educated when you discover
Why You're Wrong About the Right.

Full disclosure, I'm a liberal. However, I went into this read with an open-mind and heart. I left in a more partisan state. This book was full of examples of the misunderstanding of the right, in every bias way imaginative. I had expected this. Yet, the need to bash democrats was fruitless and a prime example of why our country is so divided. It was example after example of how blind and obsessed liberals are and immortal liberals live. That conservatives are the mortal ones, most patriotic, and best with it's policies. Whatever, everyone is entitled to their opinion and blind-state. I choose to be more wide-eyed and recognize there is good and bad in all parties.

The absolute slap-in-the-face moment for me was the support of Barry Goldwater support for segregation and that's it was not a racist attempt on African Americans, but more support for private companies (defended by the authors in chapter 1). Really? I wanted to throw the book in the garbage, but I didn't, I was determined to be the better person. The next slap in the face was how affirmative action has been a disserve to African Americans and given them permission to be pro-entitlement welfare recipients, of course no facts to back this up. Yeah, good luck with that and winning over black support for the republican brand with that rhetoric. I can affirm with President Obama re-election and 98% support from Africans American in 2012, tells me I'm the not the only one that has been offended by republicans lack of understanding to the concerns of the black community. Maybe stop with the stereotypes and offer real solutions. The solution is not bashing affirmative action and support of private companies to discriminate.

In the end, I finished the book. I had more knowledge of how the conservatives viewed themselves. The book determined my ever support for the democratic party. I'm more proud to be a blue-dog liberal than ever before. Upon completion of reading the last line in the book, I threw the book across the floor. Childish yes, regret of my position, NO

Rednecks do not blast Lynyrd Skynyrd and David Koresh did not immolate himself. The book generally reveals the authors are campus liberals who have not spent any time with real red-necks and as a result have no real understanding of what it means to be a "redneck" conservative. No chapter on pro-life topic.

This book by S.E. Cupp & Brett Joshpe is a good read for any Conservative, or Liberal, who wants to know really how we think. As a Conservative, of course I found myself in agreement with the authors, but it was the discovery of some ideas, and groups that I would have never guessed leaned to a conservative way of thought, like the Log Cabin Republicans, this group I'm going to look into further. But to sum up a Conservative, I like Tucker Carlson's definition: A conservative instinctively sides with the individual over the group. We understand that not every choice is a moral issue, that sometimes people just prefer plastic to paper, a Suburban to a Prius, and that's okay. We are for diversity, in the true sense. You can eat any kind of breakfast cereal you want in front of us, and we won't judge you.

A good and informative read.

I wish I had checked the publication date before purchasing. It does seem amusing in 2015 that the authors used quotes from Ted Nugent and Glenn Beck as examples of good conservatives but I was expecting more humor from the book than that. I can only imagine how the authors would have dealt with the actions of the Tea Party and others on the far right during the Obama years. How dare those stupid liberals to get the wrong impression of conservatives from the actions of the most vocal among them. I am also a little hacked at Amazon that this book appeared in my recommendations without a warning that the shelf life had expired.

This book was fun to read. The authors created a nice balance of historical data, voting records, and interviews. I was surprised and pleased to see Al Leiter and Curt Schilling being interviewed. For consertvatives, I think it is a great resource to address theses myths we will inevitably faced with. For liberals, i think its a good resource for those who are thinking "I agree with some conservative principles but ...". I look forward to another book by either author.

I was looking for an explanation of the conservative point of view and did not get it. All this book did was deal with miths and not all that well there.
