Wolverine (2010), the second installment in the four-part reinterpretation of Marvel characters for Japanese audiences, makes the transition much more successfully than Blade. The series is based on four graphic novels created by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller in 1982. Logan/Wolverine heads for Japan when Mariko, the woman he loves, is kidnapped by agents of her father, Japanese yakuza boss Shingen Yashida. He plans to marry her to the slimy Hideki Kurohagi, cementing the alliance between their gangs. The path to true love seldom runs smoothly, but it's rarely this rocky. Wolverine has to battle not only scores of yakuza thugs with hi-tech weapons, but an increasingly deadly succession of mutants. Kikyo can produce a katana (Japanese long sword) from his wrist, much the way Wolverine extends his trademark claws. Omega Red, a Russian biomedical experiment gone wrong, attacks with metal tentacles and a Boris Badenov accent. The gigantic automaton Vadhaka presents an even graver threat. Wolverine gets some help from his friends, especially the slinky assassin Yukio, who fights with a ring-shaped throwing knife, and a cadre of rebel slum-dwellers. Their fighting skills may be formidable, but Wolverine fans know better than to expect a happy ending. Director Hiroshi Aoyama keeps the action moving and choreographs the many fights with the requisite panache. The result is a violent but interesting fusion of Eastern and Western fantasy that recalls Wolverine's catchphrase, "I'm the best there is at what I do, but what I do best isn't very nice." (Unrated; suitable for ages 14 and up: violence, violence against women, grotesque imagery, alcohol use) --Charles Solomon

Marvel has dipped a bit into Anime and I decided I had to get a look for myself. Naturally, Wolverine got his own, 12 episode series. The series starts off with he and the love of his life, Mariko Yashida, on a boat together when Mariko is taken. When he finally finds her, Logan discovers she is betrothed to another, at the insistence of her father, Shingen. For those who have read the comics, events in here have some resemblance to the Wolverine limited series as well as some parts of the Wolverine regular series from years ago. We do get to see some other villains, such as Omega Red show up.

I am a big time Wolverine fan. I have been for years now. I did like the series, but I have some issues with it too. There is lots of action and plenty of Logan putting bad guys into a "world of hurt". We get to see some cool characters such as Yukio cause some havoc. What bothers me most, however, is how Logan is portrayed but I will explain.

Prior to watching this series, I watched the Anime X-Men series (which is awesome). In that series, they did a great job with the voices and the dialogue matched very well with how the characters, including Wolverine, are portrayed in the comics (or at least how they were in the 80's and 90's, I haven't collected in about 14 years). Wolverine in this series probably has one of the worst voice overs they could have chosen. It just doesn't match with the Logan that we know (or any of the voices in other animated series he has been in). He is smaller framed and thinner in this series too. It was almost as if I couldn't see him as Wolverine until he popped his claws out.

The voices in general didn't come nearly as close to the quality they found for the Anime X-Men series. I know Anime in general has some lousy voice overs anyway, to the point where it is kind of funny and that is one allure of anime. It doesn't ruin the show, but it definitely does detract. Again, part of my problem is that they did it right with X-Men so I feel as though they could have done it right here.

Overall, it's a good series and it's pretty cheap here. Wolverine fans should certainly consider getting this.

This anime version of Wolverine is very good. Now its not for kids for Saturday morning toons. Teens and adults recommended since it a lot of graphic violence, but with good reason. And the cool thing is how I would depict Wolverine exactly how gritty as he supposed to be. A lot of good story and action fight scenes throughout the series here on 2 discs. This is about Wolverines Japanese connections so naturally it all takes place in Japan. A fitting idea to make an anime version too right?

The wolverine video storyline and plot was enticing and interesting, so I did not lose in the video. The animation was very life like, which I really like when the animation is more human like in the movements and life like drawings. The fight scenes were very exciting and I was drawn into the action. Loved it.

received the package and everything seemed ok. Opened it up but low and behold disc one of the two disc set was cracked right in two. so I'm not on to make a fuss and I listened to a friend that the first disc wasn't all that great so. Ok I'll let it slide. That an well I doubt wolverine would've really care in the end.

First I had anime Blade then anime Iron Man then anime X-Men and now I have anime wolverine in my collection. All I'm missing now is an anime Daredevil, anime Punisher and anime Fantastic Four DVDs. If you like marvel characters and/or wolverine then you should get this.

Ja, was soll ich sagen. Ich habe diese Serie mal im Fernsehen gesehen und sie hat mir sehr gefallen. 😊 Marvel Wolverine in Animegestalt.

Danke an Amazon und den Verkäufer. 👍 /5 Sterne/ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

5.0 out of 5 stars The Real Wolverine
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 22, 2013
This is the Wolverine from the comics. I read the comic this anime was based on; the subtle points of the story line were taken out in favour of more action scenes. Even that is ok, with me because that fits in with Wolverine's character completely. The animation is great and fits the mood and theme of the series. The only things (I am being really nit-picky here), I did not like was the way Wolverine was drawn he look too lean and tall. I can understand why this was done probably to make him look more like Huge Jackman. Whereas in the comics he is more stocky even short and muscular. The other thing is Wolverine voice (in the English dub) makes him sound too young, and does not seem to go with his more gruff language. This can still be explained because of his healing factor he vocal cords stay the same as his appearance.

The story 10 years ago Wolverine and his girlfriend (Mariko Yashida) are attacked on a boat. Wolverine put up a good fight despite being shot by hundreds of rounds of machine gun fire. By the end of the fight most of the attackers are dead, but Mariko is missing. 10 year later a Japanese officer and (friend of Logan), come to America to tell Wolverine Mariko has been found. Also she is the daughter of Japanese Kingpin Shingen Yashida. Shingen is forcing her to marry the criminal king of the lawless, pirate island of Madripoor. This is so Shingen can expand his criminal empire. Wolverine attacks Shingen in his fortress/home slashes his way through Shingen's men till he reaches Shingen himself. Pretty short for a series huh, wrong Shingen is a master swordsman. He hand Wolverine probably the worst beating I have ever seen. Every one of his blows is a killing stroke the perfect representation of the of his art no unnecessary movement. The trouble is he cannot kill Logan. With his healing factor Logan simply has to take the pain and out last him till he can get a killing shot. The duel is settled with outside interference from Mariko's fiancé who hits Logan with a drugged dart. The series is Wolverine chasing Mariko to get her back. With many road block in the way some henchmen some super powered, and in some cases a whole island against him. He picks up some allies along the way like Yuriko. Yuriko want revenge against Shingen for killing her parents. Yuriko must shop in the same place as the Black Widow. Same jumpsuit with the zipper stuck half way down. No compaints from me.

Differences from the comic, after losing to Shingen Wolverine does not go through any more training except killing a whole load of human road blocks. Yuriko acts a lot older then her comic counterpart. She is not the adrenaline junky and prefers tactics over Wolverine's bull in a china shop approach. Mariko is the ultimate damsel in distress she does not even put up a fight or say anything in her private moments she seems have a recurring theme of "oh Logan. What have I done to you"? However the plentiful action scenes make up for all this. They also add nicely add in one of Wolverines forgotten powers. His strength obviously he is not in the same league are the Thing or even Spider-man (even though everyone seem to forget Spider-man how strong Spider-man is he could lift 10 tonnes people 15 after the other) but he is a touch above Captain America. There are any examples of this in the series, it though it was well used.

This is a great DVD and you get Wolverine doing what he does best, and surviving everything that is thrown at him. If you are a fan of Wolverine movie or especially comics watch this it is great. If there is a season 2 one word please Sabertooth!!!!
