Full disclosure: I’m not family or friends of the creator, or part of the Kickstarter for the Tern. I wanted to find an ice cream maker to give my husband for his birthday, who loves frozen yogurt, and this came up on my Amazon search. I don’t know the creators, but I’ve Kickstarted something before and know how hard it can be to break into the market. I had to leave a review to make sure other consumers know what a great device this is! If you want to make excellent ice cream fast, and be in full control of the process, this machine will fit the bill.
What I love about this machine is how involved you get to be in making delicious custom ice creams. It’s very fun to learn how to churn the mixture. It’s not too hard to start with the recipes given, but it seems like there’s a lot to master. It’s a good feeling. You can create an excellent quality ice cream in about five or ten minutes the first time you try it out, and it seems that the quality will only go up with experience. It’s glorious!
I love how simple the machine is. It turns a cold bowl for you. That’s it. That means there’s no complicated parts to wash, no little pieces that you have to worry about breaking. The bowl is small so it makes small portions, but I’ve made two batches in a row with no problems with the bowl not being cold enough. The efficiency of its simplicity is extremely pleasing.
My nephew loves being able to make our own ice creams together. I haven’t branched out very far with him yet, since I’m still learning and I don’t want to disappoint him. But he is a curious boy who is very entertained the whole process through. It’s a lovely alternative to, say, baking cookies together.
I’m still working on getting yogurt to freeze correctly, but I have a lot of hope about getting there soon. I love this machine and glad I took the chance on buying it!

Super Easy, QUICK and delicious homemade ice cream

We have had our ice cream maker for over 6 months and we use it all the time! It is incredibly EASY to use, even our 9 year old likes to help make the ice cream. It’s incredibly QUICK too, in under 10 minutes we go from gathering ingredients to scooping ice cream in cones. It’s delicious! We use the recipes recommended but we often go rogue and make our own flavors. It’s fun to do and good to know we are using simple and quality ingredients! All of the ingredients - by the way - are ones we already have in our home. We have two bowls and they stay in our freezer all the time. One bowl/batch feeds our family of 4 - one scoop each on a cone. Occasionally if we are super quick we can use the same frozen bowl for a second batch. Otherwise, we just get out our second bowl if we want to make two separate flavors. All in all, one of our favorite and most used small appliances in our home!
