Celebrate Pride every day with the very first picture book to tell of its historic and inspiring role in the gay civil rights movement, from the author of the acclaimed Pride: The Story of Harvey Milk and the Rainbow Flag.

A powerful and timeless true story that will allow young readers to discover the rich and dynamic history of the Stonewall Inn and its role in the LGBTQ+ civil rights movement--a movement that continues to this very day. In the early-morning hours of June 28, 1969, the Stonewall Inn was raided by police in New York City. Though the inn had been raided before, that night would be different. It would be the night when empowered members of the LGBTQ+ community--in and around the Stonewall Inn--began to protest and demand their equal rights as citizens of the United States.
Movingly narrated by the Stonewall Inn itself, and featuring stirring and dynamic illustrations,
Stonewall: A Building. An Uprising. A Revolution is an essential and empowering civil rights story that every child deserves to hear.

I bought this book to read to my 5 and 8 year olds to kickoff Pride Month every year. It's a great reminder that Pride Month wasn't always love and rainbows, and that riots and revolutions were required for the LGBTQA+ movement to get to where it is now. It's really well written, with just the right tone. We love it!

Particularly good for this moment in time. It happens to be June, which is how I learned about the book because a resource I follow on social media shared it. However, it’s also a very kid friendly book that addresses why people protest, why there are riots.

Though I was excited to see this book, I was nervous that it would erase trans people and people of color who played a critical role in Stonewall and the movement. They’re there! Even included photos in the back. A good telling of the story.

I really like the pictures in this book, they really showed a diverse community that used to be in the West Village, and at Stonewall. I got this book for my 4th grader to share with his class as part of a Pride event, and his school is in the NYC's West Village, and I do like that it shares the this history of pride in our neighborhood. I wish this book talked more about trans people and their role at the Stonewall riots. Im glad trans folks are featured in the pictures. This day In June remains my favorite pride picture book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good book, somehow does not hit the mark

Wanted to love this but somehow it isn't quite right. 'Harvey Milk and the Rainbow Flag' remains, in my opinion, THE example of a great LGBT history book for children.
