The Small Change Diet: 10 Steps to a Thinner, Healthier You Paperback – December 27, 2011

THE ONLY “DIET” PLAN YOU WILL EVER NEED!

No deprivation, no struggles.

Just ten small changes that will transform your life.

Keri Gans, spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association, shares her simple plan for weight-loss success that lasts a lifetime.
The Small Change Diet isn’t about creating unrealistic, unsustainable rules—like counting calories, restricting choices, or eliminating entire food groups. It’s about turning smart habits into second nature.

When it comes to achieving healthy, continued weight loss, the smallest adjustments often make the biggest impact. The key is mastering one new habit before expecting yourself to tackle another. Keri breaks each of the plan’s ten easy steps into even smaller, more manageable solutions. The best part is that
you decide what to focus on and when you’re ready to move on. Take your time! Once you’ve made all ten changes, you’ll be healthier and thinner—for good!

This book is quick and easy to read with lots of information about healthy diet and weight loss tips.

Good ideas but repetitive, also never mentions alternate dairy beverages. Soy, almond, oat etc. really pushes low fat and no fat alternatives which are generally filled with added sugar for flavor. A 3 ounce serving of fish isn’t going to satisfy anybody. Lol. Like I said some good ideas but nothing I haven’t read before multiple times. So. A grade of C+

So far I like the ideas and tips she has. I like that it's a quick read and self paced. You work on one small change before moving on to the next. I don't like that she recommends diet soda over regular. Diet is poison from what I've read and it defeats the purpose of dieting. Diet sodas don't work. She does recommend flavored, unsweetened seltzer water over soda which is what I prefer. She's not as health conscious as I try to be but she has great ideas for building new and healthy habits. She also has the everything in moderation attitude which I like much better than the all or nothing attitude so many of us fall into. So, a small soda with real sugar and a small fries can be a special treat. A lot of it is common knowledge but it's that knowledge in action that will make a difference in one's health and she helps you transition into it so it's more of a daily habit.

Excellent, excellent book. The recommendations are so simple yet so profound, and doable! Packaging was superb, too, and the book arrived in perfect condition. Can't ask for more than that! [ UPDATE: This wonderful book is not a diet book. It is a HEALTH book. I was significantly under weight due to medical issues but THIS book showed me how to navigate all of that and improve my health. My doctor was very pleased and asked about the book. I hate that it's out of print. Amazon, can you fix that? Anyway, this is a GREAT book! ]

As someone who has tried many approaches to losing weight and was daunted at the prospect of starting the process again, I found that this book has a real, common-sense approach that can be implemented without drastically changing everything all at once. This is not a book with a revolutionary, sure-fire way to lose weight. But those don't often work in the long haul any way. It does provide a format and a way of thinking about habits and life change that can work in the real world.

These are common sense things you've probably heard thousands of times or are already doing, just not consistently. Hardly worth yet another diet book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, well written, informative book

I loved this book. It's such a refreshing change from all the fad diets out there at the moment. Rather than a 'quick fix' solution (which never is a solution!), it is a 'take your time', well informed plan to eat well for life and lose weight. It doesn't cut out any of the major food groups (hurrah!) and is written by an actual Registered Dietician, NOT some self titled 'nutritionist' which can be someone reasonably qualified OR someone who has done a short online course and professes to be an expert!
Great practical book that works!

4.0 out of 5 stars Small changes really do make a big difference
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 16, 2012
This book can be applied to most peoples lives, but for me, it puts a stop to the quick fix diet and brings in a kinder approach to weight loss, with a healthy body, healthy mind approach. There is no doubt that by following these small changes, you will see changes in yourself and your body. It's easy to read this book and think that nothing significant has changed in you, but with repetition and giving yourself time to let each stage sink in, it really does work.
