The app tells you what percentage of the filter is "used" and when you need to replace it. These last for months depending on how high your air purifier is set to run and how dirty the air is but compared to the Holmes air purifiers I have too, this one lasts a long time. It's A LOT bigger than than the Holmes air filters though. Like several times bigger to the point where you would say "that's big" so for the price it's a great deal.
