Okay so I’m not going to lie, before the last 20% of the book, I would have given this 3 stars. I almost feel as if she was trying to turn this into a whole book that could have easily been added into just two books. The whole back and forth thing was just annoying and went on for too long. Seemed like a filler and I believe it was. I think it was because she wanted three books and not two. Can’t blame her, but I think it could have easily been 2. I mean I don’t know the next one, but I could imagine it won’t be kingdom of ash long.
The last 20% of the book changed it all for me. I could see us needing to see Kai and Paedyn forgive each other and fall more in love. I loved their relationship at the end of it. And okay… THE ENDING!!! So I totally saw it coming the second Kitt got the ring. But I still freaked when I read it. I think just knowing the status of her and Kai’s relationship, made it all the more dramatic. So in the end, that is what made it 5 stars. I would easily read it all again to get little glimpses of their story to get to what I experienced in the last part of the book.

I really enjoyed this book, felt like she brought us along so happily to just leave us hanging off the cliff at the end. I guess that is to be expected in the second book of a trilogy. The writing is just as good as the first, makes the story a fast read.

** I guess I should say spoilers but honestly read reviews at your own risk.

I won’t say the lead up or ending was completely unexpected or unpredictable, but you still felt frustrated and wanted to scream to not put us through this torture at the end.

Maybe a little less action in this book versus the first but we get to see more in-depth natural growth of pae and Kai’s relationship. Thank god there were making out in this book, because if they would have avoided kissing like in the first, probably would have lost it.

Should have waited until all three were out so I would not have to wait and guess about the third. I have theories but I guess we will see… Kai and Pae forever (hopefully)lol

I love that we got to see how Paedyn and Kia’s relationship panned out. I truly felt like I was in the book watching them fall in love in their own weird way. As a reader I sit here screaming at them to open their mouths and communicate, but I know that’s not how they operate as characters.

It truly makes me sit back and think about how Lauren Robert’s has the ability to make me believe these characters are as real and you and I. The emotions I feel for them and towards them is astounding. I want nothing more than to see them together and I hope we get to see that in the conclusion of the trilogy.

My only wish is that we could have seen them in the castle longer than just the final two chapters. I would have loved to see more of what the kingdom is like after the murder of the king and the rise of another!

No words to describe all I’m feeling right now with the way this book ended, talking about a plot twist and a cliffhanger. How in the world do you get past that? It’s like Kai and Pae are doomed to only have moments and not a HEA. There’s so much that I feel is still unknown, so many questions to ask, such as how did Callum get to be in the position that he is? Alas I’ve got to wait until next year to find the answers to all this.
As in Powerless, I’ve loved the banter between Kai and Pae, loved the way their feelings have evolved for each other despite everything. This love triangle is the most complicated one that I’ve come across so far. Why Kitt? Are you punishing yourself or Kai? I really don’t get it. But can’t wait for the finale. 🙂

I have mixed feelings about this one. While I genuinely enjoyed the book, especially the dynamic between Pae and Kai, and appreciated their constant presence together and the ongoing conflict between them, I expected more from the second installment. The storyline felt repetitive, often building up to what seemed like a climactic moment that never fully materialized.

Despite this, Lauren's writing style is captivating, and she remains an incredible storyteller. I wouldn't call this book a bad read by any means, and I'm looking forward to the third book and seeing where Pae and Kai's journey takes them next.

I am also surprised by the cliffhanger but I can think of SOME ways that it makes sense, I have many theories lol… but I won’t spoil anything ;) I just think we’ll have to wait and see!
