After the ending of Powerless I was so excited to get my hands on this book!!

So many great parallels from book 1. A little repetitive on storyline but enjoyed the page time with Kai & Paedyn. I read this book so fast!!

That ending ☠️💀!!

Here’s to waiting for book 3!

I have mixed feelings about this one. While I genuinely enjoyed the book, especially the dynamic between Pae and Kai, and appreciated their constant presence together and the ongoing conflict between them, I expected more from the second installment. The storyline felt repetitive, often building up to what seemed like a climactic moment that never fully materialized.

Despite this, Lauren's writing style is captivating, and she remains an incredible storyteller. I wouldn't call this book a bad read by any means, and I'm looking forward to the third book and seeing where Pae and Kai's journey takes them next.

I really enjoyed this book, felt like she brought us along so happily to just leave us hanging off the cliff at the end. I guess that is to be expected in the second book of a trilogy. The writing is just as good as the first, makes the story a fast read.

** I guess I should say spoilers but honestly read reviews at your own risk.

I won’t say the lead up or ending was completely unexpected or unpredictable, but you still felt frustrated and wanted to scream to not put us through this torture at the end.

Maybe a little less action in this book versus the first but we get to see more in-depth natural growth of pae and Kai’s relationship. Thank god there were making out in this book, because if they would have avoided kissing like in the first, probably would have lost it.

Should have waited until all three were out so I would not have to wait and guess about the third. I have theories but I guess we will see… Kai and Pae forever (hopefully)lol

While this is far from being as good as the first book, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Yes, there is a lot of repetitive events and the middle is definitely dragged out to the point it felt as if it was only done to make the book longer until it gets to the third one but I still love Pae and Kai enough that I absolutely devoured every single moment of those two together. The reveal about her father I did assume in the first book and the ending, while I had an idea what was going to happen, I just can’t see why so I kept pushing the thought off. But I am still 100% invested in my favorite bantering couple and I can’t wait for the next one.

I need next book… now! Expeditiously! So good and perfectly paced! A little redundant, but not in a way to ruin the book.
Reviewed in the United States on July 5, 2024
I will continue this trilogy because I loved the first book so much but Reckless was a bit disappointing. There were some weird plot holes that resulted in some confusing transitions and the misspellings and typos were just distracting. It just felt like this book was really rushed.

This book is AMAZING. I loved the story, and the writing is seriously beautiful. My only complaint is that there were several misspelled words and incorrect punctuation! It’s very much worth the read, I was just distracted occasionally by the lack of edits in this copy. Much love, Lauren! Keep doing your thing! Can’t wait for the next one!

I was counting down the days until the sequel to Powerless was published. This book was even better than the first one (didn’t know that was possible). Kai and Pae have a piece of my heart at this point. Lauren does an amazing job with being so descriptive with the unsaid words between the two making it so easy to feel their love for one another. Based on the Kitt chapters I had a feeling the book was going to end the way it did but it still sucked to watch Kai in so much pain. I can’t wait for the third book to come out. The only option is for Kai and Pae to end up together!

This is one of those books where when you finish you stare at nothing with your mouth open for a good while.

We pick up where we left off in Powerless with Kai hunting Paedyn as per his duties and the kings orders. Much like you would expect gruesome violence and blood shed occur.

They’re both reeling from what they *think* happened to each other’s fathers. Paedyn is still mourning the loss of Adena and in order to get away from Ilya she heads over the scorches to Dor - fitting in is not an easy task when your face is plastered across wanted posters and there is a price on your head. When she is the most recognisable person in the Kingdom is there really anywhere she can hide?

Inevitably when Kai catches up with Paedyn they end up on a deadly adventure together and as you would expect they are a force to be reckoned with.

This book leaves both the FMC and the MMC questioning everything they’ve fought for and fought against. Both of them having a lot of trauma, healing and issues to work through. When they finally find common ground (you didn’t expect the enemies to lovers to be resolved that quickly did you?) they realise the healing they find is in each other.

Kai Azer still out here making “darlin” the sexiest term of endearment ❤️ he’s up there for book boyfriends.

“Enemies” to lovers 🔥
The one horse trope 😮‍💨
The one bed/bedroll trope 😮‍💨
Touch her/him and… trope very prominent from both MMC and FMC 😮‍💨
Cliffhanger ending… 😫😭😬

For a second instalment I think it really moved the story on and set the final one up to be something special. Lauren did a great job at sticking with it being a YA book when she could have easily flipped to NA if she wanted ❤️

5.0 out of 5 stars The fanservice sequel we asked for

Dive into the stormy sequel to "Powerless", where the kingdom of Ilya is in turmoil and the tension could hardly be more palpable. In "Reckless", Lauren Roberts serves us a rollercoaster ride of emotions and a world that is as fascinating as it is dangerous. 🌪️📚

Paedyn Gray fights not only against external enemies but also with her inner demons. The loss of a loved one and the weight of her actions weigh heavily on her. The trauma of the events in "Powerless" has left her scarred and presents her with challenges that she barely understands herself. 😔🗡️

And then there's Kai Azer, the enforcer, who is supposed to hunt Paedyn, even though he wants it the least. The tension between the two? Indescribable! 🔥✨ The book delivers plenty of fanservice for those who have been eagerly awaiting their tension. Scenes full of intensity and chemistry will make your heart beat faster. 💖

The setting of "Reckless" is so vividly described that you can almost feel the sand in your mouth. 🏜️🌵 Torn from the elite, dangerous world of Ilya, we are plunged into the desert of the Scorches and the menacing city of Dor. Here we see that even people without abilities can be dangerous. It's a fascinating insight into the larger world outside Ilya's isolated bubble. 🌍

Trauma and loyalty are central themes that come up again and again. Who are you really loyal to? Can deeds be forgiven? And who do you want to be in the end? These questions drive the development of Kai and Paedyn and allow us to look deep into their souls. 💭❤️

Lauren Roberts' writing style? Pure fanservice! 💯 The calmer pacing in "Reckless" may be a contrast to "Powerless", but it's the perfect calm before the storm which will be book 3. The many scenes between Paedyn and Kai are a real highlight, and the ending? An absolute shock moment that leaves you wanting more! 😱📖

Overall, "Reckless" is a gripping sequel that impresses with strong character developments, an exciting plot and a world full of surprises. Pack up your bookshelves, you won't regret it! 📚✨

My heart was being pulled at the strings with this book. I hated (in the best way possible) the last three lines. My chest exploded. HOLY cows. I loved the twists, the quiet moments and little phrases and details.
SPOILER:
My favourite set of sentences was '"Maybe you really are a poet," I whisper. He smiles softly. "Or just a fool for you."'
My favourite phrase was 'Pretend'
