Before purchasing this system, l checked out the customer reviews. You read the 5 stars, you read the 1 star ratings. Somewhere in between, you get a gist of what you’re looking looking at. This PHILLIPS system filled my requirements to a tee and l am absolutely happy with it. As you can see in the photo l’ve posted, this system is a shelf system that l could use whilst laying in bed and checking out my iPad for the days news, stock market, social page, emails,etc. l blue toothed my phone playing my songs from my AMAZON MUSIC playlist, hooked up my iPod using the audio out of iPod to audio in on the PHILLIPS whilst hooking up the USB port to keep charging my iPod, played USB thumb drives, and of course CD’s. I don’t have any MP3 cd’s, l use the thumb drives. Although this system has a tuner, l rarely listen to radio. The audio quality of all formats is excellent. I have a JBL 2 speaker and a GOOGLE HOME speaker, but find the audio not nearly as robust as this system. 15 watts is good enough to listen to music, whilst laying in bed. Bass and drums come thru and the audio spectrum is even. You hear everything. Vocals, guitars, keys, horns...they’re all there. The PHILLIPS can’t compete with my stereo system in the living room, but l don’t need the power. If l want the whole neighborhood to hear my music, l blast my living room stereo setup. My PHILLIPS is for me, not the ‘hood. As l write this review, l am listening to my blue-toothed android phone AMAZON MUSIC playlist of songs from my junior high school years ( l graduated from jr high in ‘71 ) and, as Maxwell Smart would say, “loving it”. For me, the setup and remote control are intuitive for this system. I did not have to refer to the instruction sheet. Yes, this system won’t remember what track was the last one played on cd’s or any format, but that’s cool with me. I wanted a system that l could listen to that supports various formats. A system that l could use whilst lying in bed, A SYSTEM TO PLAY MUSIC THAT SOOTHES THE SAVAGE BREAST...

For the price I am not sure if one could buy a better sounding system. Because the speakers connect via a terminal at the back of the amplifier using different speakers would be possible. The ones supplied work well. The whole unit is very simple to use and though there are not a lot of controls it seems to have enough.

Overall, the stereo is really nice for the size. We have it on a bookshelf in our Livingroom. We were not expecting to rattle the windows, just listen to music while we read or have company over. The sound quality is very good, and it can go way louder than we want when you crank the volume.
I lowered the score for the instructions. They are very minimal. It took a few tries to figure out how to program the FM radio and get the program channels to lock in. CD player is easy to use and sounds great. Blue tooth took a few tries to get connected also. Now that it's up and going, we are very happy with the stereo system.

This compact micro stereo works is easy to use and pretty intuitive. No need for lengthy user manuals (though you can consult that, too). It has FM radio, a CD player that can also read MP3 disks, as well as Bluetooth and USB (for USB flash player) or headphone jack for audio input. However, you do need the remote control for most functions, that's a bit of a drawback, but the remote is well designed (see below).
The speakers are nothing special, but pretty good for a small size system. They are 6x9x5 inch and have a max. output power of 15 Watts. They are not super loud, but provide fairly undistorted, true sound at all volumes and don't sound tinny. It is equally good for spoken word, classical music, and pop/jazz/rock. If you're used to subwoofers, you may be disappointed because they don't deliver bass on that level, but that's to be expected. I have this system in my kitchen and I can now listen to music without getting annoyed at the bad sound quality. There is also a DSC sound enhancer that allows to switch between balanced, clear, powerful, warm and bright, but the differences are so small that you might as well forget this function.
The Bluetooth pairs easily. My android phone, my iPad, and my Mac laptop all connected without any problem. It is not password protected, so in principle, someone could connect from the outside, but with a range of 10 meters (30 feet), it is rather unlikely in my neighborhood.
Finally, the remote control is really well designed and neatly arranged. I read a lot of reviews of systems with tiny remotes or simply hard to understand remotes. This one is easy to use.
All in all, I am pretty happy with this system. It is the right size and sound quality for my kitchen (about 14 by 13 feet). And it has a pretty clean, simple design, so it doesn't sit in your house like some weird transformer toy (some compact stereo systems do look like that).
Edit: Upon playing an MP3 disk with an audio book, I found out that there is no easy way to get to the desired track. Such an MP3 disk has easily 150 to 200 tracks. The system does not remember which track you were at when you turn it off and later on again. So, you have to remember the track yourself and then push the forward button 80 times if you want to get to track 80. You can't punch in numbers. That's a huge disadvantage and I took off one star because of that.

I ordered this system, and had it the very next day!!

I opened the very sturdy box, thinking I would I would set things up a few days later; but, I could not wait; Everything was well-packed and secure. Then I saw the instructions! YIKES!

Nonetheless, I unpacked everything, and saw the instructions. Phew! They looked quite daunting; but, as I started unpacking everything -- I decided to completely ignore these complicated instructions, and just hook things up as I thought they should go...and -- Voila -- it was all hooked up and ready to rock in no time!!!!

These instructions are simply a mess; but, I know you all are smart, and can hook this up in no time...I did it, so can you! The tuner and speakers seem sturdy and very well made.

As for the sound -- well -- it is AMAZING! -- such powerful sounds coming out of each of these little gems (the speakers)! Clarity is amazing, and range is equally sublime! I heard the highs, the lows, and all the precious mid-range. I was amazed! I could not understand the bad reviews here.

Look, I am an attorney; and a former jazz sax player, and I have loved music for all my life, Perhaps we all hear differently -- I do not know. But, I can tell you all, in my opinion these are GREAT little speakers, especially at this price-point.

I can hear so many things I just could never hear with my prior speakers -- and those were NOT cheap speakers!

I listen to ALL kinds of music: primarily: Classical, Jazz, and Rock-N-Roll. I have the system on my dresser, with about three-feet of separation between the speakers. The sound is phenomenal!

And while I am not hip to the scene of all the new devices you kids have today-- like: Bluetooth and MP-3 Players -- I only wanted to hear my music (on CD) as it was recorded.

I am very happy that I did NOT listen to the bad reviews here. These are powerful, and very loud speakers! They will fill a room easily with the precious music you want to here -- REALLY HEAR!!!!

I am glad I purchased these!
