Evil Is Coming – Worse than You Imagine

We live in an anxious age. Long-held certainties, cherished beliefs, and social trust are crumbling. Don’t expect things to get better. For too long we have taken our Christian heritage—the heritage upon which America was built—for granted. But we’re rapidly, and now inevitably, losing the Christian culture that shaped the American republic. What will take its place is a despotism—and a new paganism, worse than the old, because it will be based on a hatred of Christianity.

In his stunning new book, Pagan America, author John Daniel Davidson offers a stark but honest assessment of America’s future: “America as we know it will come to an end. Instead of a republic of free citizens, we will be slaves in a pagan empire.”

There is, he warns, no escape. We can only brace ourselves and prepare for a future when power will determine every relationship. Morality as we know it, as a Christian inheritance, will be forfeit, replaced by state-enforced “morality.” Violence will be common—doled out at the hand of an all-powerful state and its corporate allies.

There are hard times ahead, but we are not without hope. Christianity emerged within the confines of a pagan empire. Davidson shows how with courage, fortitude, and faith, it will be our duty and privilege to defend Christianity and restore its claims in what is likely to be a terrible and brutal dark age.

Editorial Reviews

Review

“If you’ve been consulting politics or economics to explain the moment we’re living in, you’ve been looking in the wrong place. It’s bigger and more fundamental than that. This is what paganism looks like.”
—Tucker Carlson, host of Tucker on X

“It’s become impossible in recent years to deny that we’re living on borrowed time in America. Our freedoms, rights, and entire way of life seem to be up for grabs. Why? In
Pagan America, my Federalist colleague John Davidson makes a compelling case that the source of American liberty is the erstwhile Christian faith of its people. In the absence of that faith, we will revert to an older form of society, one in which power alone determines right, and the individual counts for nothing.”
—Mollie Hemingway, editor-in-chief, The Federalist

“John Davidson has written a compelling defense of Christian humanity against pagan cruelty. With a bloody-minded paganism rising once again in the West, this eloquent and learned book will arm the defenders of civilization against the forces of returning barbarism and tyranny.”
—Ryan Williams, president of the Claremont Institute

“As important as policy and politics are in reclaiming this nation, John Davidson reminds us of the most important factor—courage by people of faith.
Pagan America is a gripping and persuasive account, not of some future problem, but of what we’re up against right now. This must-read book is the exhortation for Americans to know what’s at stake in our culture, our society, and, yes, our own homes.”
—Kevin Roberts, president of the Heritage Foundation

“John Davidson is a serious man. He is serious about his faith. He is serious about his freedom, including especially his and other people’s freedom to worship as they please. He sees them in trouble. In this book he relates that trouble to the decline of our willingness to look up to God. He follows Jefferson, that the liberties of a nation find their firm basis in the conviction that they are the gift of God. They are that. John states that great truth powerfully. Our need to understand
it is urgent.”
—Larry Arnn, president of Hillsdale College

“What is it going to take to wake American Christians up to the soul-killing realities of our post-Christian country? If the electrifying
Pagan America doesn’t do it, the church might as well be dead. John Davidson’s detailed, fact-filled report tracks the United States’ accelerating decline into paganism, and obliterates the happy-clappy
illusions that clergy and laity live by to justify their moral cowardice. This is a book for believers unseduced by the false counsel of winsomeness, and who refuse to go gently into the dark night enveloping America’s soul.”
—Rod Dreher, author, The Benedict Option and Live Not by Lies

Immensely Quotable and Incredibly Well-Researched and Reported
John Daniel Davidson is a fearless and accomplished reporter and that shows through clearly in this thoughtful, quotable and thoroughly researched work.I read dozens of books each year and I can't recall the last one where I took as many notes. His argument is troubling, but it is laid out so well and the endnotes are so thorough that I will undoubtedly be thinking through - and likely working to act on - his conclusions more so than any other book I've read in the past year. You can't do better than reading this if you care about America and want to see her succeed.

The author knows his stuff and presents his case with amazing clarity. My own observations (unfortunately) are right in line with his observations. I pray his predictions do not materialize, but my thoughts are they are almost inevitable. Our world is broken. Let's try to fix it.

I don’t write reviews but wanted to for this one. I caught an interview with Tucker that made me want to get this book and I will say that I was blown away at how much this gentleman is in the know (spiritually also). Right from the start when he mentions the Nephilim (Genesis 6) I got all excited, I don’t ever hear this preached or taught in the church and when you’re aware it makes the Bible easier to understand and the unseen/seen world around us make much more sense (spiritually) to what is going on. I’m not a Catholic but a follower of Christ, Holy Spirit is my teacher and the things He shows me was so fascinating to see this man write about especially AI (my favorite chapter) I’ve been teaching people about what’s behind it spiritually and almost have a feeling the antichrist will somehow use this technology to come on the scene. I do believe that as the days become darker the church will finally awaken and we will experience the things that happened in the book of Acts. Well done sir!!!!! - I’d give this book 10 stars - really well put together and so much truth!

I really liked this book.
Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2024
This book is extraordinary. If non-Christian Americans had any idea, as a knowledge of world history would provide, of what the only alternative is to a civilization heavily shaped by, and indeed founded upon, Christian doctrine and ethics, they'd be scared to death at the prospect of the decline of Christianity--and they'd be scared only because they themselves presuppose as unquestionably true, even while they explicitly reject Christianity, much Christian doctrine and ethics, and they don't know it's Christian and indeed the only reasonable ground on which their demands for human rights, dignity, and equality can rest! If people knew classical civilization they'd never long to return to it. This book tells why.

Well researched and well written, this book is so dark that it hurts to read it. But as with any hard truth, it cuts so deeply that it is impossible to ignore. I pray that the future predicted will not come to pass but the evidence for it, as the author compellingly argues, is in the present.

A timely, insightful review of what is and what is likely. One need not agree with all the details to understand that history is taking turn for the worse.
