OHHH my Gosh!! What can I say about Off to the Races, book 1 in the Gold Rush Ranch series. I absolutely fell in love with both characters from the first 2 chapters. Vaughn and Billie are both stubborn, feisty, real, and flawed in their own ways. Billie and Vaugn are also complete opposites, Billie is loud and loves to have fun while Vaugn is quiet, likes to keep to himself, loves organization and routine. I love Billie soo much. She is strong, resilient and worked her way up to being the best horse trainer. Vaughn feels he has a lot to prove to the world and sets out to try and clear his grandfather's name.

Vaughn is a pretty boy, pampered, arrogant, suit man who comes from money but he also works very hard for his family businesses. Vaughn interviews Billie for a job as the head horse trainer at his ranch. After coming to work at the ranch Billie has the hard task of training Vaughn’s most irritable horse on the ranch that won’t let anyone come near him. Billie has a way with horses, even the most angry ones. Billie will steal your heart from the first page. She is such a relatable character and Elsie wrote her so well. She also gave the irritable horse Double Diablo, DD, the best personality once Billie broke through his walls.

Vaughn and Billie go head to head with each other. Their banter is epic, the angst is on fire, and their chemistry is over the top. They continually poke each other to purposely make the other angry which inevitably has them falling head over heels for each other. The hate to love in this book was perfection.

The characters were absolutely hilarious, including the side characters. All of the characters were relatable, entertaining and the writing was light, romantic and JUICY! Elsie did an amazing job describing the setting of the ranch and how amazingly beautiful it is. Even though they were alway snarky with each other and acted like they hated each other, they hung out and got to know each other. They shared truths and fears. I loved how their relationship went from boss/employee to lovers. It was a slow burn but worth it.

If you love westerns, hate-to-love, strong FMCs, grumpy MMCs, horses, small town, ranch setting with spice this book is for you!

I’m honestly not surprised that this book is Elsie’s debut novel, she is such a talented writer! I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I absolutely loved our spitfire MFC Billie. I found her very relatable and loved her witty charm. I love the tension that builds in a workplace romance and when these two finally get together it’s like fireworks.

I found this storyline SO endearing with DD our other main character (IMO) which is a race horse. I fell in love with this damn horse!

I’m a sucker for an underdog story and this book brought on ALL the feels of accomplishments, perseverance and beating the odds. I loved the depth of this storyline and plot.

I felt ALL the feels reading this book and got teary eyed several times closer to the end.🥺 The found family trope is one of my all time faves and this checked all the boxes!

As a huge fan of The Eaton boys I was so excited to be introduced to their sister in this book, Violet Eaton. Her book is next in the series and I can’t wait!

It’s really cool to see how Elsie’s writing style has evolved and with gaining experience since this series debut.

Very excited to continue reading this series!

If this was her debut, then it’s no surprise that Silver has become so popular in the years since - not only was this genuinely entertaining on its own, but it also makes for a fantastic series starter and an all-around great read. I loved the push/pull, feuding that’s really flirting, sexual tension, and unique setting. I loved the firecracker of a heroine and how she keeps the hero on his toes. He’s a bit of an entitled jerk who is accustomed to getting what he wants, and it was so fun to watch him crave something so badly. It’s got he falls first vibes and a hero who does the pursuing - and not for just one night - which won me over in a big way. Pair that with the electric tension between these two, and I flew through the pages with ease. I loved it!

The story follows Vaughn, a man who has been left cleaning up his grandfather's mess. Vaughn inherited a horse racing stable whose reputation is in tatters following a cheating scandal revolving around his grandfather, and he's been cleaning house ever since. Excited to meet a new horse trainer who comes highly recommended, Vaughn is shocked (and dismayed!) to discover that it's the gorgeous woman he assumed was a gold digger and tried to send packing. Not only did Billie stand her ground during their first encounter, but she gave as good as she got - and that's got Vaughn feeling off-kilter. He agrees to give her a trial run with a task that's sure to be impossible to achieve, but Vaughn soon realizes that Billie is full of surprises. She exceeds his every expectation, and it's not long before the fiery woman is thawing out the grump.

As a big, big fan of Silver's Chestnut Springs series, I've been meaning to check out her first series for awhile now - and the release of the audiobook was just the push I needed. I've intentionally avoided spoilers so I could go into this series with fresh eyes, just like I did Flawless back in the day. And I'm so glad I was able to go in with zero expectations, because this was such a great read. As with Chestnut Springs, this series has a setting that I don't often read about in contemporary romance, and I loved the unique feel that gave the story. I was truly rooting for Billie in her role at work, and that added another layer of interest to an already-excellent story. I also loved the instant enemies to lovers vibes, which is always a big win for me. I am SUCH a fan of strangers to lovers romances, and this was a good one. These two have a thread of tension between them from the start, partially because of the sheer awfulness of their first interaction (lol), and partially because they feel an unwanted attraction right away. I adored watching Billie thaw out Vaughn's cold exterior to reveal the warm and loving man underneath, and the spiciness certainly didn't hurt. I'm also a fan of the cast of characters, and this did a great job of getting me excited for the next installment. I devoured this in one sitting and loved it the whole way through.

Audio note: I'm glad I waited for the audio, it was worth the wait! I'm actually not the biggest fan of CJ Bloom's voice, but I must be used to it at this point, because I didn't even realize it was her until about halfway through, lol. She generally has a snobby edge to her voice that I don't find relatable, but that was not the case this time. She gives a stellar performance and embodies Billie's strong personality well. I also thought Tim Paige did a good job, infusing a lot of personality into the performance. He's also not one of my favorites, but his voice worked well for Vaughn's mix of cold jerk and rugged stable owner. The runtime is perfect for bingeing (around 9 hours), and the vibes were ideal for the format. It's mostly lighthearted with plenty of sexual tension, and the chemistry was even more obvious with the emotive narration. It's a slow burn in the spice department, though Billie and Vaughn have sparks flying between them from the start. I wouldn't say it's a bad workday listen, but know that you might be in for a few awkward moments at the office, lol. All in all, I'd love to experience the rest of the series in audio, but now I'm not sure I can wait til the next one releases in December. Not a bad problem to have though!

Billie is wonderful, I can’t say enough good things about this character, she is hilarious, quick witted, smart, feisty and so passionate.
Vaughn doesn’t know what hit when Billie waltzes into his life, these two have such an instant attraction-but they both are not having it, and cover it up but the love of pushing buttons!
Vaughn was really a sweet character, and so much more than his persona. Especially when he is all shy and venerable and doesn’t know what to do to tell Billie he like likes her.
I loved that these too slowly progressed into a friendship, and then more! All while never loosing their special connection and ability to rile the other up in the best way!

This author gives us some great background for the characters, and a compelling story you don’t want to put down!

I am immediately jumping into book 2, as we were teased wonderfully about some upcoming characters!
