Director Joel Schumacher, who went on to helm many big-budget, tiny-intellectual movies, gave us an 1980s update of the story of the vampire. It was all hip, good-looking, and tremendously vacuous. Similarly, the music doesn't break any new ground or offer much that's timeless. INXS' collaborations with Jimmy Barnes are fine, for instance, but Foreigner vocalist Lou Gramm's "Lost in the Shadows (The Lost Boys)" verges on the painful in a way that only overwrought 1980s music can. Roger Daltrey's take on Elton John's "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" is by the numbers, and so wasted. It's only Echo and the Bunnymen's cover of The Doors' "People Are Strange" that warrants much attention, even if it's, erm, buried. --Scott Wilson

It is probably a bit redundant by this point to mention that The Lost Boys is one of the most stylish, cool, influential horror movies of all time.A perfect blend of the horrific and just the right amount of comedy.Every horror movie of now wishes it could do it this good.That being said, the soundtrack is no exception either.This is one of the most pulsating, sexy and exciting soundtracks in 80's movie history.Perfect companion for the awesome movie.Friday Music has reissued this soundtrack on vinyl before but now we get the super cool blood red pressings in this new batch!Looks and sounds awesome.I've heard people complain that the colored vinyl messes with the sound quality but I cannot notice a difference.At least on my setup.Chances are if you love the movie, then naturally you love the soundtrack and this is an amazing release to have.The classic black jacket and red vinyl is visually fitting and the songs sound great!My only wish now is that one day we will get the complete Thomas Newman score released on vinyl.On top of The Lost Boys featuring one of the most infectious, iconic soundtracks (Lost in the Shadows anyone?!) it also has an amazing musical score!Here's hoping for that in the future, but until then, we have the amazing songs to rock out too!High high recommend!

This is a must-have for anyone who loves The Lost Boys as much as I do. I’m a little bummed that the sound quality on ‘Lost in The Shadows’ isn’t the best, but every other song has good sound quality on my car stereo. Yes, you can download the album, hear it online, etc., but there’s just something so cool about having the album to hold and hearing it on a CD. Just buy it. I’ve bought this album several times over the years and either wore out the CD, they got damaged in moves or lost. I think my ex-boyfriend stole my last copy. Lol It’s a keeper!

I owned an earlier release of this cd in the 90's and loved it. I recently repurchased and reawakened to just how amazing it was. Set the tone nite drive heat lighting flickering across the sky and lost in the shadows starts playing. The Good Times (With Jimmy Barnes) - INXS & Jimmy Barnes was alittle out of pace with album. Notable songs are lost in the shadows, cry little sister, People Are Strange, I Still Believe and To the Shock of Miss Louise. This is amazing 80's album for a lost boys fan or non fan alike

the Lost Boys in my opinion- is one of the best movie soundtracks of the 1980's. Everytime I hear it it takes me back 20 years ago.It is not a hard rock album at all. It is very diverse between soft rock, pop, and goth. If you grew up in the 80's , you will love this CD. Its a CD that you never get tired of listening to. If you seen the movie and enjoy it- you MUST purchase this CD (Yes it is still available from Warner Brothers). The only song I am not to fond of is "Powerplay" but other than that- the other 9 songs are great. You will especially like the theme "Cry little sister", it is very haunting and leads to a childrens choir (its almost a religious experience). All in all- this CD has stood the test of time as it was released the same year as the movie (1987). It is still playable in front of a crowd today. I beleive the success of the film is due in part to the soundtrack. If you like alternative rock/pop, order this CD today.
This is one of the very few movie soundtracks that is still available for purchase some 22 years after its release. I have always owned a copy of this sountrack since I first saw the movie back in 1987. I got the cassette tape in 1987 and finally got the CD in 2007.

2012 Update: I just received a brand new CD in the mail from Amazon (someone stold my other cd from my car). This just goes to show the power of this soundtrack - I will always own the original soundtrack and it is still available on CD some 25 years later. I just bought the blu ray version of the movie (its a must get for only ten bucks). I also bought a copy of the movie novelization book.This CD is still available online. In fact the CD that just came in the mail today still has the 1987 copyright date so this is still the same original recording. I got mine for ten bucks, shipping included.
