Hopeless Kindle Edition

Beau Eaton is the town prince, a handsome military hero with a tortured past.

I’m the outcast bartender, a shy girl from the wrong side of the tracks.

He’s thirty-five and all man, and I’m twenty-two and all . . . virgin.

He’s also my fiancé. Correction: my
fake fiancé.

We start out as a bet. He doesn’t believe that anyone holds my last name against me. So he offers me his to prove a point.

It’s win-win. He gets a break from his concerned family’s prying, and I get a chance to shed my family’s reputation while I save up to ditch this small town.

He says all I have to do is wear his ring, follow his lead, and pretend I can’t keep my hands off of him in public.

But it’s what happens between us in private that blurs all those carefully drawn lines.

It’s what transpires behind closed doors that doesn’t feel like pretending at all.

This engagement was supposed to be for show. This agreement? It has an end date.

He once told me he’d never fall in love.

And yet here I am, head over heels for my fake fiancé.

Hopeless by Elsie Silver: The Bittersweet Finale 📚💔
“I wasn’t looking for love; I was looking for a purpose. I just didn’t expect my purpose to be you.”Hopeless by Elsie Silver marks the conclusion of the Chestnut Spring Series, and it's bittersweet to say goodbye to these beloved characters.Bailey Jansen, a 22-year-old bartender at The Railspur, is no stranger to the town's prejudice due to her family's reputation. She's been fighting to escape her circumstances, working tirelessly to chase her dreams.Beau Eaton, a 35-year-old ex-JTF2 Canadian special forces member, returns to Chestnut Springs after a traumatic event that left him scarred, both physically and emotionally. His PTSD looms over him, but he's yet to seek help.Their paths cross, leading to a fake engagement that takes them on a journey of healing and love. He becomes a protector and a source of strength for her. When Beau suggests a fake engagement, Bailey accepts, hoping it will bring her closer to her dreams. The chemistry between them is undeniable from the start, even though Beau initially resists due to their arrangement. When they finally give in to their feelings, it's a beautiful, passionate moment, and Beau's caring nature shines through. Beau's character is a delightful mix of a filthy mouth and a heart of gold. He's attentive, protective, and loving. A sweet moment is when he mends Bailey's stuffed horse, showing his care and consideration. Bailey, experiences love and care for the first time in her life, thanks to Beau. She learns the warmth of being loved and taken care of.“No, sugar. When it comes to you, I’m downright hopeless.”The Eaton family embraces Bailey, offering her the love and protection she's never had before. While the story between Beau and Bailey is touching, it didn't captivate me as much as the previous books in the series. I found parts of it slightly dragging, and I missed the family's presence, which was less prominent in this book. One aspect that felt lacking was the seriousness of Beau's mental health struggles. While it's heartening to see him find love and support, it's essential to remember that real-life issues often require professional help. The epilogue and bonus chapter provide a satisfying conclusion to the series, wrapping up the characters' stories. In summary, Hopeless addresses essential topics like mental health and burn trauma with respect and empathy, drawing from the author's personal experience. I look forward to Elsie Silver's next series, especially after reading the promising preview.

“Are you husband material, Beau Eaton?” “Probably not.” I smirk. “But if you want to show me yours, I’ll show you mine.”

While I’m sad to see the end of the Chestnut Springs series I am so glad we got to live in the world Elsie created for us! And oh what a fun, sexy and addictive ride it was! Beau and Bailey’s romance was the perfect ending to leave me feeling content and emotional at the same time! I fell hard for Beau immediately and never looked back, once he propositioned Bailey to be his fake fiance I was smitten, his protective and caring heart was like no other.

“It’s not fair to need her like this. It wasn’t the deal we made. But I care less about that deal all the time and more about keeping her close.”

The banter between these two had me smiling and laughing over and over again, even broody Beau couldn’t resist the playful charm that Bailey embodied. She was so sweet, funny and quick witted, I truly loved that Bailey had no qualms about saying exactly what was on her mind, even if it was an awkward sex question out of left field. She certainly kept Beau on this his toes and that was just what he needed in his life. She didn’t coddle him or hero worship him, he was just a man she was falling in love with. And after all she had been through with her family and the town, she deserved to be loved unconditionally and Beau Eaton was the only man for the job. There were so many great scenes and moments in this book, a memorable book on many fronts, sexy tub scene definitely included, so if you are looking for something undeniably sexy, funny and emotional, Hopeless is it! All the stars.

“You asked me who I wanted to be once, and it’s this. Me. Right here. Right now. With you.”

Summary 🗣

Beau is Chestnut Spring royalty and everyone in this small town adores his family however, Beau has a troubled past. He came back from Afghanistan a different man but he doesn't want anyone to know this new version of himself so he is stuck between who he is and who his family remembers who he was until he takes a deeper look at the girl that the town thinks of is trailer trash. For Bailey she sees Chestnut Springs as a place where no one is kind to her and everyone judges her on how her Dad and brothers are. She cannot get out of their shadows until Beau purposes.....well fake purposes in order to help her reputation in getting a better job and this is where our story begins....

My Thoughts 💭

Slow burns usually are not my thing, I am more of a medium burn type reader these days but I also love a good slow burn and this one is a good one. You don't seem to realize how deep Bailey's problems with the town are which just is heartbreaking 💔 but then you realize how broken Beau is and how truly wonderful of a couple they make. The nice thing about slow burns is it's like unwrapping your Christmas present very slowly so you can savor it.

I think the author did a very good job with character development and world building in this book. I know this is the last book in the series and it was nice to see all of the other characters and how their worlds all grew.

Bailey absolutely broke my heart and humbled you all in one book. She had so much she had never experienced that so many people take for granted. Love. That simple thing that everyone should have, she didn't yet she was always the better person in any situation where she could have easily been mean. That automatically gave her a 4⭐️ in my book but when she stood up for herself...that right there earned her the coveted 5⭐️ spot in my book. And FMC can be strong but quiet and nice. Plus the awkward questions she was always asking Beau was just the icing on top of the cupcake.

I think this was a fabulous story and I cannot wait to read more from Chestnut Springs as my mood allows.

This is a bittersweet moment for me. I have fallen in love hard with the Eaton clan and this is the final story, and what a finale it is. Elsie Silver certainly ended the fantastic Chestnut Springs series with one hell of a bang. From the start, I knew Beau’s story would be the one that broke me—and it was, when I needed tissues at about 20%. Hopeless is all encompassing, and Elsie truly hits on all cylinders. This book deserves every one of those stars.

Beau and Bailey’s journey hit me with an emotional punch that I felt to my very core. They made me laugh, swoon and cry in equal measure. They both had to overcome a lot and heal in the process. I loved how they brought out the best in each other and the growth they both went through. Their chemistry was electric and their connection was so powerful. The charge between these two is irrefutable, and every encounter is sigh-inducing. I couldn’t ask for these characters to have been more perfectly crafted. They’re authentic and complex, messy and vulnerable yet strong and determined, and so damn relatable. I felt every emotion of their journey alongside them. I can't even express the amount of adoration I have for these two. There were moments of devastation and sadness, but also heartwarming times that brought pure joy. Elsie managed to balance all of the emotions this book contains and provide the best reading experience.

The Chestnut Springs series goes to the top of my list of best series ever. It's like the end of an era, reading this final book, but I’ll gladly return to these characters and their stories, once again submerging myself in the emotional ebb and flow of this glorious book world. If there is a formula for penning an exceptional novel, Elsie has not only mastered it but improved on it. I was captivated from the very first page, devouring every word and reading straight through in one sitting because it was absolutely, undeniably impossible to put down. Thrilled with the hours spent with these amazing characters but devastated to reach the end. Beau and Bailey’s story is the consummate cherry on top of this exquisite treat, one that I want to immerse myself in and stay in forever. Elsie Silver gave us something truly special with this family and their love stories, and I’m beyond sad to see this series end. But I also know that what Elsie crafts next will be just as extraordinary as these stories were. An ending like this is certainly bittersweet, but honestly couldn’t have looked any better.

5.0 out of 5 stars The final instalment of the Chestnut Springs series... well worth the wait!
Reviewed in Canada on June 23, 2024
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½ • 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️½

📌 You’ll dig this if you like
» Fake dating
» Small town
» Age gap
» Touch her and 💀
» Slowest of burns (worth it, I promise!) 🔥

The fifth and final instalment of Chestnut Springs gives us Beau: the super soldier, broody, and hot as hell middle Eaton brother.

Back from Afghanistan after a harrowing experience when he missed his ride out; he has a lot of trauma to unpack. His physical injuries have healed, but getting out of his head is another thing.

He feels like he lacks purpose, but then Bailey gives him one. The town has treated her like trash since forever and he's convinced that giving her his last name will turn things around for her.

He's 35 to her 22 and even though she knows better, she takes his bet.

What she doesn’t know is how long he’s been secretly pining for her, and the lengths he will go to ensure her happiness and safety. Yet.

→ Oh. My. God. I’ve had this on my shelf for a few months and have procrastinated because I didn’t want to come to the end of Chestnut Springs. Hopeless was worth the wait.

→ Elsie Silver has masterfully built a world and draws emotion from readers with such acuity that she cements herself as an auto-buy, favourite author for me.

📌 What stood out
» Beau has the protective/ possessive vibe on lock. Anyone who dares to look at Bailey the wrong way will immediately regret their decision.

» Bailey’s been a social pariah her whole life, but the Eaton wives have her back and show her the love she deserves.

» We get a little bit of each of the other couples which felt like a hug and a comforting way to tie the series up.

📌 Moments
» Bailey’s spine comes out and she gives a verbal lashing to some folks who deserve it 👏

» Beau puts a ring on her finger at the bar in front of her favourite patron and IT IS EVERYTHING!! 💍❤️🥹

» I’ve never been a bath gal, but I’ve never wanted a soaker tub more in my life. 🛀
