UPDATE AS OF 2-5-2024 I was really hoping I would NOT have to update this review from enthused to totally disgusted, but since posting my original review way below, and in spite of my attempt to reinforce their cheap plastic handle with the pink bicycle handle wrap two vacuums ago, the handle busted YET AGAIN! And then the roller brush stopped working for good (even after cleaning it) and truth be told, the roller brush on ALL of the five vacuums I went through of this model could barely handle going over any textured rug pile surface without stopping suddenly and then you would have to turn it off and turn it back on again! This is absolutely unacceptable seeing as they charge so much money for this model. Why they cannot design the handle to be FULLY METAL and a roller brush that can actually keep rolling over basic rug piles is beyond me. The handles of ALL five models I have gone through, yes you read that right, have all broken consistently after only about 2 to 3 months! But I've FINALLY learned my lesson!!! Hahaha! In the past when the handle would break on all of them, my husband would reinforce it by inserting and connecting a metal cane into the hollowed out metal section where the plastic handle busted off and it worked like a charm, but then I had to put up with the constant roller brush stopping for no reason other than it wasn't designed to handle a simple pile rug surface or my fluffy faux rugs. I can no longer take it!! Shame on me for being foolish enough to continue to buy this cheap, plastic, overly priced model. But no more! Unless someone in the Engineering and Design Department gets wise and finally makes the handle fully metal and the roller brush designed to actually last.My solution this time? I finally took a chance with my husband's suggestion with trying the Black & Decker cordless vacuum model, (which retails for around $139) and I'm so glad I did!! It's about 70 $80 less than this cheap Hoover model and works FAR BETTER! I am a self-confessed picky cleaner who vacuums my whole house DAILY due to having three cats, and so far I can honestly say the Black and Decker cordless vacuum is fantastic! The suction is amazingly strong (almost too strong on my fuzzy rugs, but I love that), the roller brush can handle going over my fuzzy shag rugs without suddenly stopping every time, it's more lightweight and easier to maneuver, adjusts speed on its own when it senses the texture of the surface, AND has a tried and tested run time of 44 minutes. Oh and the handle is made far better isn't designed to break. Im sticking with the Black and Decker cordless vacuum! Try it, you won't be sorry as you will if you buy this Hoover.OLD REVIEW:As far as affordable, cordless vacuums go, this one is nearly perfect! This is coming from someone who vacuums daily because I have two cats and am very picky about cleanliness and particular vacuum features. I have tried several other brands/types of lightweight vacuums and really wanted an upright cordless for daily ease of use and to keep from having lower back problems. Previously, I tried the other cordless Hoover model and found that one too weak and problematic after returning it five times for a replacement. But then this baby came along and HELLO!Now here's the main flaw and how I fixed it. But first, a quick note to whoever designed the handle on this model: PLEASE USE METAL AS OPPOSED TO CHEAP PLASTIC IN THE HANDLE area where the main handling and tension take place! I am not even someone of Herculean strength and this is just from basic daily use, but for whatever reason after about a month of use, the upper portion of the handle just SNAPPED RIGHT OFF LIKE A TWIG. And I could see it was made from thin, hollow plastic, yet it's metal in the lower portion of the handle. GO FIGURE. I don't get that design logic and therein lies the big design problem. I returned this model vacuum TWO TIMES after each handle broke. BUT because I loved how it performed in all other aspects, I decided that the third time would be a charm with my solution. Since the main reoccurring problem was in the cheap, plastic handle, I reinforced and protected it by wrapping it with pink bicycle handle tape (ok so I love pink). And as of now a few months later, the handle is still intact and not broken! WOOHOO!As far as the other features and why it's still my favorite, the suction is superior as far as cordless vacuums go. The battery power is outstanding and lasts at least a half hour, so I get all my rugs on two floors done. It's also very lightweight and maneuvers well. I also love the three different settings of suction with or without roller.Now regarding the roller: I've read some people complain about how the roller will automatically stop when it goes over certain rug textures and that is TRUE, but it does NOT BREAK and will still work after switching the roller setting off and back on again. So in my opinion, that is an excellent feature because it works as a safety mechanism to KEEP THE ROLLER FROM BREAKING when it detects trouble. You can also just switch to the suction without the roller brush for those shaggier problem areas. To sum it up: Once Hoover upgrades it with a stronger 100% metal handle, they'll have the best cordless at an affordable price!UPDATE: The handle snapped off like a twig today on May 27. I will never buy this product again as this is the THIRD TIME this has happened with every replacement on this make and model. Totally baffled why Hoover chose to use a PLASTIC handle, yet it has a metal stem leading up to the plastic handle. The handle is where most of the tension happens from usage so that should also be metal. GO FIGURE. Cheaply made when one small change could make it so much better.
