Review of New Formula - UV AOX Elements 50 vs UV Elements 44

Review of New Formula - UV AOX Elements 50 vs UV Elements 44
DON’T LET THE PRODUCT PHOTO FOOL YOU — I guess it hasn’t been updated? The photo shown is the original formula UV Elements 44, but this page is to buy the new formula (EltaMD has reformulated this product) UV AOX Elements 50.This is a review of the new formulation, UV AOX Elements 50 spf where I compare it with the original UV Elements 44 spf (and respond to recent reviews I’ve been reading and how they match up with my experience)I’ll start with what I like. I really like that it’s 50 spf. What’s up with these random spf numbers from Eltamd? — 44, 41, 46. I always try to wear 50 because my face is very susceptible to burning and I use tretinoin or other retinoids. I really did love the original Elements 44 spf, but I do like that the new one is 50. HOWEVER, I know they had to add some ingredients to bulk up the spf, and that means the new formula is not a purely physical sunscreen (mainly, they added Butyloctyl Salicylate, which is a chemical UV filter). I know this matters to a lot of people. I know a lot of people can be sensitive to it. So I get the negative reviews. For me I don’t love that it’s in there, but I also don’t totally mind. I’m fortunate enough to where I’m not sensitive to it.On to the shade of the tint. Reviews on here are saying it’s more orange. I don’t see that personally. I still have a tube of the Elements 44 and I took a picture here comparing them side by side on the back of my hand. The top is the Elements 44. The bottom is AOX 50. They really look the same to me, and when I use the AOX the tint still blends into my skin tone the same way the original formula did (and I’m fair for the most part). It does seem that for many this isn’t the case though, and I know everyone is differentSome downsides next. The new formula is thicker. It makes sense with how they bulked up the spf, that’s why it’s thicker. So it doesn’t feel as moisturizing. I loved using the Elements 44 as my morning moisturizer and very much loved the texture and feel of it. The new formula just isn’t the same. Especially when I re-apply the new formula it will clump in some areas, mainly in my eyebrow area, so I just have to be extra diligent to make sure it’s rubbed in there. It hasn’t put me off using the new formula completely though. With the price, I agree I think it’s ridiculous they raised the price. The reason EltaMD gives for a higher price point is that it’s a higher spf and has added antioxidants. I could maybe see that being justifiable, but only if it was the same amount of product (2oz). Here we’re paying extra for less product (1.7oz).To end, if you can, try to stock up on the remaining stock of the Elements 44, which I did. But when it eventually runs out, for me personally, I don’t mind using the new AOX 50 because it still serves my needs — a tinted sunscreen with iron oxides (because I struggle with hyperpigmentation), and one that doesn’t have any scent, isn’t greasy, doesn’t sting my eyes, and has some moisturizing ingredients like hyaluronic acid.

I use this SPF since 2019 and even tho I have others SPFs my favorite is this one. It’s moist, it has a little bit of coverage that blends well with my skin color all year round. I’m glad they changed the container. It delivers the product better. The only thing is that I’m not sure who I’m going to open when it’s running low because I like to use it until the last drop of the product.

I use this instead of foundation most of the time. It's thick because it's a physical sunscreen, but the tint helps smooth out my complexion, and I think it works well. I don't usually reapply it, but occasionally I add a lighter sunscreen for additional protection if I've been sweating or swimming. Often, though, I don't need to do that because this is pretty impenetrable. It doesn't give me blemishes, either.

I have been using the original 44 version of this for years, and I absolutely hate when companies mess with or reformulate my faves. However, the new 50 elements is better than the 44! Yes, it is thicker, but now I am using it more often because it covers better. The old product was not enough coverage for my aging skin, and so I loved it for no makeup days but not for out days. I use this for both now!

I used to have a hard time putting on sunscreen before putting on my make up. Now, instead of using foundation, I just use the tinted sunscreen. It goes on smoothly and even though I don’t always reapply every two hours as recommended I always end the day with no sun Burn or skin damage. I have already purchased 15 to 20 of this product. I use it every day.

After a laser procedure my doctor gave me this tinted, as well as the regular Elta MD sunscreen to wear and I wear it daily now instead of foundation. I am prone to breakouts and have had zero since I started using their sunscreen. It's easy to blend with the no tint sunscreen, and for me, being on the pale side, the tube lasts for months. It's spendy, but worth it!
