Safety Tips:
|
|
|
---|---|---|
Children should always be supervisedEveryone should have the opportunity to enjoy a solar eclipse but eclipse glasses are not a toy. Make sure children are supervised by an adult. |
Purchase Your Glasses From A Reputable DealerMake sure your glasses are from a reputable source. Eclipse glasses are NOT regular sunglasses; regular sunglasses, no matter how dark, are not safe for viewing the Sun. Safe solar viewers are thousands of times darker and must comply with the ISO 12312-2 international standard. Look for the ISO mark and ISO 12312-2:2015 This certifies that your glasses are safe for eclipse viewing. |
Make Sure Your Glasses Are In Good Repair (Photo Credit Geoff Simms)Make sure your glasses are in good condition. Always make sure to inspect your lenses carefully for any cracks, scratches, or other types of damage that would allow a light leak, whether you are reusing eclipse glasses from previous eclipses or a brand-new pair of eclipse glasses. |

Do NOT look at the Sun through a camera lens, telescope, binoculars, or any other optical device while wearing eclipse glasses or using a handheld solar viewer —the concentrated solar rays will burn through the filter and cause serious eye injury. Those devices require different types of solar filters.
When viewing the partial phases of the eclipse through cameras, binoculars, or telescopes equipped with proper solar filters, you do not need to wear eclipse glasses. (The solar filters do the same job as the eclipse glasses to protect your eyes.)
![View the Sky](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/S/aplus-media-library-service-media/d7cc5bee-bfd7-4509-8054-5b2626f34575.__CR122,0,667,667_PT0_SX300_V1___.jpg)
View the Sun through eclipse glasses or a handheld solar viewer during the partial eclipse phases before and after totality. You can view the eclipse directly without proper eye protection only when the Moon completely obscures the Sun’s bright face – during the brief and spectacular period known as totality. (You’ll know it’s safe when you can no longer see any part of the Sun through eclipse glasses or a solar viewer.)
As soon as you see even a little bit of the bright Sun reappear after totality, immediately put your eclipse glasses back on or use a handheld solar viewer to look at the Sun.

I chose Rainbow Symphony because it was listed on the Suppliers of Safe Solar Viewers and Filters List on the American Astronomical Society website. Even if eclipse glasses are ISO compliant, they may not be tested properly, so I wanted to be sure I was getting safe glasses. It was also nice that these eclipse glasses and poster came in a mailing tube, so they arrived in perfect condition.
They worked great and my kids had an amazing experience viewing the Ring of Fire! I also got some awesome photos, thanks to these eclipse glasses! I put them over the camera on my phone and they turned out amazing!
Next week's eclipse is on a school day, so my kids will take these eclipse glasses to school. :)

Everybody's eyes came out of the event as good as when it started. ;-)
Donated the glasses to a charity after the eclipse.

Did not work though as a lens in front of my iPhone camera. Oh well...There are hundreds of pictures of the eclipse online, if I wanted to download one.

The frames, although made of cardboard, were comfortable and kept my glasses in place when I wore them. They fold, so they are easy to store in a file for future use.
Advice: Be sure to read all instructions/warnings for this product (and do not use damaged eclipse glasses). Safety first!
