Interesting product!
I have a shorter, full beard (approx. 1.5") and do not use any shampoo in it, rather I only rinse it in the shower then apply oil or balm. Since shampoo removes oils, it gets very dry after using most shampoos and kind of degrades the effect of adding oils. That being said, this was my first exposure to beard shampoo and I was very skeptical. I used the shampoo according to the directions and was pleased that a small amount was sufficient as the directions implied. Since the directions said rinse thoroughly I made sure it was all out and thought for sure my beard was going to be dry. To ensure the results were controlled, I didn't add any other product the rest of the day. Once my beard dried, I was surprised to see that it was not as dry as I was expecting, actually, it felt similar to its normal softness. It maintained this softness most of the day and I was happily surprised. It wasn't as soft as normal, but very close. The next time I used this shampoo, I used my normal product afterward and I noticed that I didn't need as much. My beard also maintained the expected softness all day. Overall, I am happy with this shampoo's effect on my beard. I think it will be good for using once or twice a week to enhance my beard care. It is nice to have a cleaning option that maintains the softness instead of wreaking it for days. The fact that it is all natural is a definite plus as well. The one improvement I would suggest would be the scent. It smelled clean but I am more of a fan of the 'rugged' scents. I bought this more out of curiosity than anything. I liked the ingredient list, brand values, and felt the price was very good.
My initial thoughts are:
1. There's a light citrus smell to the shampoo but it's not very pronounced.
2. The shampoo has a short burst of tingly feeling, initially, but it doesn't linger.
3. 1-2 pumps is all that's needed for a medium beard. 3-4 for a very pronounced beard.
4. I think it's best to leave the shampoo on for 3-4 minutes to have the best results.
Overall, this will soften your beard slightly, especially if you're using nothing at all. If you're new to beard products, there's no shame starting here. However, after you get your feet wet, you'll likely want more from your beard products.
In sum, I recommend this at the price it's sold for and it's a value product, nothing more!
