I got this unit based on the reputation of all of my other Bose equipment (several sets of headphones, a mini speaker) and am pretty happy with this purchase. Setup was very smooth and the only thing that took any time was assembling the stands for the surround speakers, the pictorial instructions were ok. Replacing my existing sound bar and sub with the Bose took about 90 seconds. The app is a little clumsy, but had zero problems with the initial setup and adding it into my household wifi. The app very deliberately (I assume because of people had problems) throws a splash screen and a caution about a time soak when updating the firmware of the unit, but with an awesome internet connection it only took me 10 minutes (app said it would be 25), after that it was off to the races. Doing the calibration with the headset only takes a couple of minutes and you're done. The large universal remote is just ok, all of the devices in my setup use bluetooth and they tend to fight with each other, it also doesn't have the voice control option that both of my devices use, so the new remote pretty much sits on the coffee table. Beyond that, the sound? Awesome! It's kinda amazing how many regular tv shows have surround encoding and movies are like being at the theatre. The sub doesn't shake the walls, but it's plenty loud enough that you know it's there, the surround speakers, although tiny, seem to be plenty loud for my 10x12 room. Getting it all balanced takes some tweaks with the app, but once it's set, it's all consistent. Overall, couldn't be more pleased, do wish it didn't cost so much (!), but it's Bose.

The build quality on these is great as is the packaging. The setup could not be easier, I had the entire 5.1 setup up and running in less than an hour from the first shipping box opening until I decided that it had to go back. I wanted to like this setup, I really did. The old saying about Bose still holds true today, no highs, no lows, must be Bose. I would have thought that at almost 2k this system would have rocked my socks off. A simple amp with a modest set of bookshelf speakers, a powered 10 inch sub and a Echo in the 700-1000$ range will blow this out of the water. No it will not be as sleak, but when paying good money for audio you should be getting above subpar sound.

I've had this product for about 4 months now. The sound quality is great when it is working. As of May 23rd 2019, the right rear channel started distorting. After hours of troubleshooting, I found that the problem was related to it trying to decode Dolby Digital Plus (pretty common standard for most devices). I went to the Bose support forum and others were having a similar issue. Apparently, a firmware patch had been pushed (you can't opt out) and it has a bug that creates the issue. I contacted Bose and they said they are aware but refuse to rollback the buggy code. I expect more from a company that charges this much for a soundbar.

Remote only illuminated 1/2 despite new batteries. Could not get rear speakers to work properly despite following instructions step by step. Bluetooth never did work properly. I tried HDMI, tried Optic Cable and read instructions again. Lights on front of sound surround worked once and never again. Just a bad experience. Bose did pay for return shipping. I purchased a different manufacture sound surround and it works perfectly. So disappointed in this Bose system.
