This conditioner says clarifying on the bottle, so I was skeptical, but it is thick and clings to the hair well. I left it in a minute or so and rinsed. Most of the time I have to put product in my hair to keep it from being frizzy and flying away, but not with this one. LOVE that!! My hair is soft and looks great--like the models on TV commercials. I wish it was a little more lemony, but I love how it works!!

Update: I’ve been using this only once or twice a week since I have to use so much to get it worked through my hair. Recently I used a bigger than usual handful and it gave my a terrible rash on my scalp and the back of my ears. I’m throwing away both the shampoo and conditioner.

I like the shampoo from this line and the smell is amazing, but this conditioner doesn't go very far. I have to use more than twice as much conditioner as shampoo to get through my medium length hair. It seems whipped or something so once you start applying to your hair it just kind of disappears. I'd probably have to buy three bottles of conditioner to go with one bottle of shampoo.

Tangles, bleaches, and hard to spread

I have fairly sensitive skin and can get quite itchy if I use a shampoo or soap that has certain chemicals in it. So I've been on a quest to find soap, shampoo, and conditioner products that have fewer odd chemicals in this. My quest is challenging because I also donate my hair to charity every three years. So I need my hair to remain thick and healthy while I do this. Otherwise my charity donations will make recipients unhappy rather than happy.

The Avalon Organics Lemon Conditioner seemed like it would be just right for me. My boyfriend loves the aroma of lemon, so that would be a plus. It would have fewer chemicals. It says it restores natural highlights and color. It removes build-up. All great!

So I began trying it. First, the conditioner is very thick, and the container cannot sit on its lid. This means one has to really pound it to get the conditioner out. This is bad enough when the bottle is beginning, but by the end of the bottle it makes getting any out quite challenging. It means the last part of the bottle is wasted.

Next, the instructions say to massage it in "from the roots up". Hmmm. I'm not sure how that's even technically possible unless one had an eyedropper. If I have a dollop of conditioner on my hand, and I put it on my head, it is going to touch the top of my hair first. I then have to massage it down *towards* the roots. I don't see how I could get it to start at the roots and then work its way out.

The conditioner seems to get absorbed nearly instantly. That then means there isn't any left to "massage around" and get to the rest of the hair. Over my time with the bottle I used larger and larger (bordering on, to me, outrageous) amounts of conditioner on my hair. My hair is currently only just-past-shoulders length, too. It's not even at its full waist length point. I would put a giant dollop in my hand, start putting it on my hair, and it would vanish nearly instantly. It's not that my hair is super-dry either. If anything I'd call it slightly oily. So I never felt as if I was getting all my hair conditioned.

When I was done, the hair would feel squeaky clean - which is a problem. When I then tried to comb or brush it, it would tangle. The hair was not detangling as most conditioners would do. It would catch on the brush or comb. So this meant more hair would pull out during the brushing process.

All of this was odd enough. I've tested many, many conditioners over the years and not had this combination of issues happen before. But then the clincher. I was out kayaking with my boyfriend recently, and he looked at my head and then took a picture of it. Apparently my hair is now turning white at a prodigious rate where I am putting most of the conditioner. I have dark hair. I do realize that many people with blonde hair use lemon juice to bleach their hair and make it lighter. I should have realized this would happen.

Because I am a sucker for punishment I will try the rosemary version to see if it's any better, and post a review there when I'm done testing. But I can unequivocally say that this lemon is just not for me. I would not recommend it for anyone with dark hair, or with long hair. It probably would be best for someone with short, blonde hair who likes the scent of lemon.

I have long, fine hair that gets weighed down very quickly and is oilier than it is dry. This Avalon Organics clarifying conditioner is great for my hair type: it provides just enough moisture to my hair to stop it from tangling, without building up on my strands and weighing it down.
The lemon scent of this conditioner is beautiful. It's got that light,crisp, bright citrusy lemon scent, with just a touch of sweetness (like a lemon dessert). I use the conditioner after shampooing and leave it in my hair for 2 or 3 minutes before rinsing, and the scent fills my bathroom. The conditioner rinses cleanly from my hair, and I love how light it leaves my hair once it's dry.
This is a clarifying conditioner- it is NOT heavily moisturizing so if you have dry hair this isn't the product you're looking for! For oily hair, however, it's fabulous, as well as for limp hair that is prone to product buildup. I'm really pleased with this conditioner, it works really well for my hair and I will buy it again.

I switched to Avalon Organics and tried this conditioner after learning about the use of formaldehyde (DMDM) in my previous conditioner of choice under the OGX brand. I chose this conditioner because cosmetic ingredient analysis websites show it has no harmful ingredients.

The pros are this smells great, leaves my hair feeling fresh and clean. The cons are that this is less thick than conditioner I'm used to, so it's more on the liquidy side. This takes a little getting used to but overall I'd recommend it.

I bought the shampoo from Waitrose - it soothed my scalp immediately and is nice and refreshing - didn't by the conditioner at the time as I wanted to see what the shampoo was like. Thought I would try the conditioner via Amazon. Conditioner is good too although I put too much on my hair. Smell is lovely - similar to Loccitane products. Will try the Lavender next.
