NOT OFC wire here, do not use for audio & YES it matters, GREAT for lamp cord and other low draw power only uses !!! 16ga can actually handle a "fair" amount of amperage over short runs, NOT including vacuums, high draw kitchen use, power tools, etc. NO. Get the 12 or 14ga out for those. Too small a gauge does BURN OUT what's trying to use it!! Been there! Done that.
I did not buy this for audio use, I bought this for inexpensive aluminum/copper matrix utility use, and for that, I am thrilled. That light turned right on, I tell ya! :)
Seriously, ignore the gents who suggest OFC isn't needed for audio speaker cable. It IS!!! There is roughly a third MORE resistance, which affects Ohms and your amp and how it "Sees" said load. In other words, the wire itself INCREASES resistances, a load on your amp - which combined can easily affect the audio chain and make your amp work harder. Not good given audio companies do all they can to lower that!
I've had many many systems over the years with constant upgrades like all of us audio addicts.
BTW, just so you know I know of what I speak, over the years of hard work, saved money, and no kids - my current system is insured for $116K, mostly McIntosh control/power 7.3 surround, OPPO, with exotic speakers I don't use normal wire on at all - except for longer runs for the rear and surround speakers and for that I use 256 strand 10ga OFC. OFC matters!! Longer the run, more it matters, both audibly and electrically. ONLY use OFC for audio. Be happy. No buyers remorse.
This is GOOD wire for utility use!! Perfect for LED lights.
