My wife is currently half way through the book and this review is from her:Absolutely love Better Menopause book! It offers an excellent balance of menopause science and a great selection of delicious recipes. Dr. Amati's writing style is straightforward and succinct - sophisticated concepts are made easy to understand even if you don't have a medical background. I enjoyed learning about HRT, metabolism, hormones and many more vital menopause and healthy living related concepts that we all should be familiar with.Jane Baxter's recipes range from vegan (packed with plant protein) to meat and fish based one and look truly mouth watering. Boston based beans and Miso-glazed aubergine are the next ones on my cooking list!

I was hoping for a full book of recipes but they don't start until page 90. The information etc. up to that point is interesting and informative (although much is what I've read elsewhere associated with the Menopause). I was mainly disappointed with the recipes themselves, many don't have photos (which I would have expected from the cost and the cover) and a large portion of them require an extensive cupboard of ingredients that you many people won't have and would need to stock up on before starting. Overall underwhelming and expensive for what you are getting.

The science behind is well explained, but what i like the most is the fact that the recipes are tasty yet mostly simple to prepare- it does not add a burden to a busy life and they don’t feel like you are making huge dietary sacrifices

Really disappointed that a book promising to be backed by science for a healthy menopause, contains such an odd list of food and drink priorities. The authors recommend red wine in the "eat regularly" section and a cake in the rarely. Really? Alcohol is not healthy and particularly so during the menopause when it exacerbates many symptoms. This is well referenced in the text of the book, why does it suddenly become a recommendation to be included in the diet regularly? The use of the French paradaox as a means of evidence for some beneficial effects is both outdated, clumsy and not directly related to the menopause. Conversely has a piece of cake or a biscuit got such detrimental health effects to menopausal women that they should rarely be eaten? Where is the evidence for this? Sadly this book was not for me.
