Panini UK Football Sticker Collections 1978-1985 Kindle Edition

A FINANCIAL TIMES BEST SPORTS BOOK OF 2022

'This book delivers a thousand memories'. - Mark Lawrenson

----

A football fan's dream come true – every complete UK PANINI sticker album 1978-1985 reproduced together for the very first time.

'Swapsies', 'Got, Got, Need' and 'Shinies'...

This landmark illustrated book is a fantastic feast of nostalgia for any football fan of a certain age. PANINI albums were a must-have if you were a football-mad kid growing up in the late 70s and 80s, when player stickers were bought, bartered and collected in a treasured rite of passage. This book will bring back all those 'I had that one', 'I'd forgotten about him' and 'look at that haircut!' memories as well as providing in-depth details on all the players and teams of the era.

Licensed by PANINI, this is a comprehensive collection of PANINI'S UK domestic football albums from 1978 to 1985 inclusive. Covering all English First Division and Scottish Premier teams, it features not only all the great teams and players of the era, but the one-season wonders and the also-rans as well.

Inside the book:
– Nearly 5,000 images of iconic PANINI stickers, album covers and sticker packet designs.
– Hundreds of clubs including Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Celtic, Rangers, Manchester City, Spurs, Newcastle United, Dundee United, Nottingham Forest, Sunderland, Aston Villa, Aberdeen and West Ham United.
– Photographs and pen portraits of the great players of the day, such as Bryan Robson, Glenn Hoddle, Kevin Keegan, Ossie Ardiles, Ian Rush and John Barnes, plus World Cup winners in the twilight of their careers and young stars in the making, like Peter Beardsley, Chris Waddle, Mark Hughes and Gary Lineker.
Due to its large file size, this book may take longer to download

Review

"This book delivers a thousand memories" --Mark Lawrenson

"This reissued collection of ordinary men turned into immortals is also an elegy to evanescent youth and defunct hairstyles. I felt I remembered half the stickers." --Simon Kuper, Financial Times

Like footy? Remember the days of collecting these? This is the Bloomsbury Sports Book UK PANINI sticker album 1978-1985, Softback, 592 Pages, Measuring 24 x 2.54 x 33cm.If you remember being a youngster and spending all yer pocket money on stickers, then buy this. You will kick yourself, cus if the younger you knew this book would ever be released, you could've got more Star Wars figures instead of blowing a small fortune on multiple packs of 6 stickers! In the 592 packed pages you get every sticker of every player from 1978 to 1985, including Division One (Prem in today's money), Division Two (Championship) squad pics, Division 3 (League One, only a couple of years), Scottish Premier and occasional lower. Included are various bonus content from albums over the years including players / managers of the year, fixtures, rules, old adverts including Subbuteo and who can forget the mail out to get the last few stickers you need to complete the book! This book is amazing and the perfect coffee table / toilet book. You'll flick through it and remember EVERY sticker, and how you put it in its square as lined up as possible. Oh no, remember when you put in a wonky Ray Wilkins?!? So many great memories, the year they had long stickers in 83 (stop changing things), playground swapping...got, got, got, need, swapsies...how many for a badge? Why are Bryan Robson and Ian Rush worth 5 Watford players haha.Put them into your pile, faced different ways with either an elastic band round or in a money bag.Overall I would thoroughly recommend this book, as at £30 it is an absolute steal. As you spent four times that trying to complete each album! If only you had a DeLorean...oh you don't know about that yet do you? Your kids are gonna love it...

Having been an avid Panini Sticker Collector back in the day (I still have my original 1985 and 1986 albums 😁) I thoroughly enjoy just flicking through this, brings so many memories back.
I'm tempted to buy the other volume now from 1986 onward.

Thankfully we have now got the 1st (hopefully of many) Panini UK Football historical sticker books.

I collected Panini stickers from 1979 to 1986 and then became a teenager and lost interest in them.

I can't state how important these books are historically for people who were young during this time period 78 to 85 and if I was young person in 2022 I'd recommend this book to them to get a feel for football in the past.

These books are a historical record of hairstyles, strips, stadiums, club badges and of managers and players no longer with us!

I'd just like to recommend to Bloomsbury, Panini and Amazon that this book is a hefty weight and when it is in the delivey process its going to get a few dunts along the spine and book edges. So I'd recommend some protective padding on these places as I had to return the 1st book sent to me for spine damage!

Thank you Panini and Bloomsbury!

Took me back to the late 70's and early 80's collecting these stickers. Such fun and frustration having always a few I could never find. Now I can with this amazing collection.

This is a good book and very nostalgic. However, the badges in the book aren't shiny in the print and the cover ws damaged in the bottom right hand corner when delivered.

Super item. For an American collector who missed all these collections this is a fantastic look at past Panini Football Collections in the UK. I have the Hardback versions of Panini’s World Cup and Euro Collections from several years ago and this is a superb addition to go along with them. My only wish is that this was a hardcover book . I am hoping Panini considers doing the same look back for there German and Italian collections from the past.
I am ordering the other Panini UK book right now. Well done . Also, Item was packed securely in a box.
