Secondly, the audio quality, volume and sound activation are all poor. Again, not what you’d expect from Motorola. It feels like the electronics is extremely out of date using some early primitive form of DECT cordless phone protocol (think 1990s).
Lastly, the physical design of the units is awful - they weigh about 30 grams each and constantly fall off whatever surface you put them on.
Instead of using this item we bought a video monitor made by v-tech; this was a little more expensive but literally 10x more well designed, well made and practical to use.
The monitor is great for the price, but I wouldn't recommend it for a newborn. The sound isn't that loud, although it is clear. My other monitor was much louder.
Features: the handset can run on batteries if you don't have a plug socket near you. (The unit that goes in the child's room needs to be plugged in).
Good range, even in our old double bricked house.
Easy to set up.
Easy to alter settings.
Has power saving mode so that the handset only activates once it picks up sound from the base unit - great feature so that you don't get a constant static sound.
This one is just right.
Most importantly it works constantly, doesn't cut out if the baby isn't crying, I can hear her breathing which is what I wanted.
Distance is great, clear as a bell and decent of not amazing battery life.
Great for the price.
The parent unit doesn't have a belt clip though. It's loud enough.

The good- the parent unit isn't constantly on, instead it comes on when a noise is made which is good as you don't get white noise.
The bad and this is why I wouldn't buy again- it looses connection frequently and when it does it beeps loudly until it reconnects. This is annoying when I am awake, devastating when I'm asleep and already up and down like a yoyo. Think of it like an alarm clock you don't set and it randomly wakes you up and you have to get up to reconnect the connection.
The range on this is so bad my guess is that it was tested briefly with the 2 units in the same room in development. We live in a bungalow so all the bedrooms are next to each other and it. As an example it lost connection recently and I was outside my sons room with his unit at the door and it wouldn't connect. So on that occasion the range was less than1 2 metres through a wooden door.
We also have an angel care monitor. This works from the front of the house to the back and even into the back garden and it hasn't once lost connection
