Help bring the joy of cinema to Alder Hey!
A trip to the local cinema is something we take for granted – an experience that all the family can take part in. But it is something that many of our long-term patients are unable to experience due to their complex health issues. Our new cinema will allow them to experience the latest blockbuster releases along with their siblings and friends, all from the safety of our hospital. The cinema will be equipped with space for wheelchair access, beds and medical equipment, as well as being adorned with eye-catching rainbow-coloured theatre seats. There’s even a magical entrance decorated with movie props, rainbow floors and themed décor, creating a truly immersive red-carpet experience for all our young patients.

“Having a MediCinema in the hospital whilst Ivy was an inpatient would have been brilliant. Ivy has always loved films, particularly Disney films. Her favourite is Wish and she so enjoyed going to watch it at the cinema, as that is one of her favourite things to do. It would have given her a bit of normality and the opportunity for a break away from the ward as the days can be so long when you are stuck in one room. Going to the cinema allows Ivy to escape into another world and forget about all the procedures she is going through and makes her feel like any other child, and it is so great that the children at Alder Hey are going to get this opportunity too.”
