JD Davison will be back with the Boston Celtics for the 2024-25 season after signing another two-way contract with the NBA championship team.
Boston announced Davison’s signing on Monday afternoon.
Since joining the Celtics as a second-round selection in the 2022 NBA Draft, the former Alabama guard has played on a two-way contract and spent most of his time with the Maine Celtics of the NBA G League.
The two-way contract allows an NBA team to carry three players beyond the 15 on its regular-season roster. The two-way players can move between the NBA team and its G League affiliate without having to pass through waivers and be exposed to the possibility of being poached by opposing teams.

Two-way players are eligible to play in as many as 50 games in a season with the NBA team. A two-way contract pays $578,577 during the 2024-25 season, which is half of the rookie minimum.
In the 2023-24 season, Davison played in eight NBA games with Boston and had 16 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in 39 minutes of court time. In 49 games with Maine, Davison averaged 21.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 8.8 assists and 1.5 steals. He was a third-team selection for the All-NBA G League team.
After defeating the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals, Boston did not make a qualifying offer to Davison by the end of June, which allowed him to become a free agent before the Celtics quickly brought him back with the two-way deal.
Davison is preparing to play with Boston’s NBA 2K25 Summer League team in Las Vegas. The Celtics open their schedule against the Miami Heat at 5:30 p.m. CDT Saturday.
Davison earned Alabama’s Mr. Basketball Award for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons while leading the Calhoun School in Letohatchee to the AHSAA Class 2A championship in each campaign. Davison averaged 33.4 points, 12.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists as a junior and 32.4 points, 10.9 rebounds and 4.7 assists as a senior at Calhoun.
Davison averaged 8.5 points, 4.8 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game in his only season at Alabama.
