6-year-old child dies after single-vehicle Baldwin County wreck; driver charged with manslaughter

A 6-year-old child died after the SUV they were riding in left the road and overturned early Monday morning in Baldwin County, authorities said Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle was arrested and charged with manslaughter in connection with the incident, said Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Senior Trooper Joshua Thompson.

The child was a passenger in a 2003 GMC Yukon around 3:08 a.m. Monday when the vehicle left Baldwin County Road 28 and overturned, Thompson said.

The 6-year-old child was taken to a local hospital where they died of their injuries.

The driver, identified as 25-year-old Summerdale resident Zelvin G. Pavon-Gomez, was injured and taken to South Baldwin Medical Center in Foley.

Pavon-Gomez was later arrested and taken to the Baldwin County jail on a charge of manslaughter.

The wreck occurred near George Younce Road, about five miles south of Robertsdale.

Further information was unavailable as state troopers continued investigating the single-vehicle wreck.
