Authorities have released the name of a man who drowned while swimming at Oak Mountain State Park.
Shelby County Coroner Lina Evans identified the victim as Jason Beck. He was 47 and lived in Wellington in Calhoun County.
Pelham firefighters to the park about 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Evans said it appears Beck was trying to swim a distance, started cramping and went under the water near the dam. He was with several other swimmers.
Wellington’s body was recovered by divers by about 5 p.m.
“The Shelby County Coroner’s Office sends our condolences out to his family in this tragic and sad time,’’ Evans said.
