2nd suspect charged with capital murder in killing of 31-year-old in Birmingham

A suspect is in custody in the June shooting death of a 31-year-old man in Birmingham’s Tom Brown Village housing community.

Derek Markei Bailey-King III, a 23-year-old Bessemer man, is charged with capital murder in the June 1 killing of Brandon Deandre Wilson, according to court records made public Tuesday..

South Precinct officers were dispatched at 1:30 a.m. that Saturday to the 500 block of 41st Street North after the city’s gunfire detection system - Shot Spotter – indicated shots fired in that location. Officers were then updated that a person was down.

Wilson was found wounded in the intersection of 41st Street and 5th Court North.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service rushed him to UAB Hospital where he was later pronounced dead at 2:43 a.m.

Documents state the charge against Bailey-King is a capital offense because the fatal shots were fired from a vehicle. A motive has not been disclosed.

A Fairfield teen - 18-year-old Fernandeiz Emillio Rapley Jr., is also charged. He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on July 3.

Bailey-King was booked into the Jefferson County Jail shortly before 2:30 p.m. Monday and remains held without bond.
