Oreo has released a new limited-edition flavor and it’s inspired by a fan-favorite ice cream.
The cookie brand is releasing Mint Chip Oreos. Mint Chip, modeled after the ice cream flavor mint chocolate chip, combines two classic chocolate cookies, mint chip-flavored cream and little chocolate chips, reports People. The cookies hit stores nationwide on July 8.
How do Mint Chip Oreos taste?
Alexandra Foster from food publication The Kitchn describes Mint Chip Oreos as “stunning:
“The vibrant filling is surrounded by the classic wafer cookies with an adorable upgrade. In line with the ice-cream theme, one wafer is embossed with a crisscross design that mimics the pattern on an ice cream cone (a supercute detail that I greatly appreciated). As soon as I opened the packet, I was hit with a whiff of mint,” wrote Foster. “It was sweet with a refreshing essence of mint. The bits of chocolate were more like little crunchy flecks that added texture than the chips you’d expect in a scoop of ice cream.”
Other limited-edition Oreo flavors
In May, Oreo released a new flavor inspired by Sour Patch Kids candy. TODAY.com food writer Joseph Lamour likens the cookies to a fruity cereal.
“Not only does it call to the flavor of Sour Patch Kids without being too sour, the cookie-eating experience turns the timeline of eating the gummy candy on its head,” wrote Lamour.
