CBS Evening News with Norah O’Donnell was the only newscast to see week-to-week growth in the Adults 25-54 demo. However, all three evening broadcasts saw drops in total viewers for the week of June 17.
Excluding sports, ABC World News with David Muir remained the most-watched newscast and the No. 1 program on U.S. TV screens. Due to ABC’s coverage of Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Monday and its coverage of the Stanley Cup on Tuesday and Friday, WNT’s numbers are based only on Wednesday and Thursday’s broadcasts.
World News Tonight averaged 7.147 million total viewers for the week of June 17, which was down -2% from the week before. In the demo, the number fell by -6% to 956,000 viewers. Looking at its performance to the same week in 2023 (the week beginning June 19), WNT was down in total viewers by -3% and -13% in the A25-54 demo.
NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt came in second place in total viewers and the demo this past week, averaging 5.727 million viewers and 739,000 viewers in A25-54. When compared to the previous week, Nightly News was down -1% and -10% in total viewers and the A25-54 demo, respectively. When looking at its performance the same week a year ago, Nightly News was down in total and the demo by -8% and -25%, respectively.
CBS Evening News had 4.340 million total viewers and 616,000 viewers in the demo for the week of June 17. It was down -6% in total viewers but up +6% in the A25-54 demo when looking at its performance relative to the previous week. It was the only newscast to see growth in the demo and may have picked up additional viewers as a result of ABC showing sports during that time period on Monday, Tuesday and Friday in certain time zones. Its year-ago week numbers were down -3% in total viewers and -10% in A25-54.
