Here are the Cable News Ratings for June 2024

The public curiosity for how President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump would perform during CNN’s presidential debate drew plenty of eyeballs to the cable networks. All three outlets finished saw month-to-month ratings increases during primetime for the month of June. Naturally, CNN was the biggest beneficiary, with the June 27 debate becoming the highest-rated program in its 44-year history.

Meanwhile, Fox News remained the most-watched network claiming 12 out of the top 15 spots in total viewers and 14 out of the top 15 in the advertiser-coveted Adults 25-54 demo. MSNBC occupied the remaining spots in both measured categories.

During primetime, Fox News averaged 2.272 million total viewers and 255,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo. For total day, FNC pulled in a respective 1.349 million viewers and 159,000 viewers in both of those measured categories. Compared to its performance in May 2024, Fox News was up +13% in total viewers and +28% in the demo during the primetime viewing hours. During total day, Fox News was up +4% in total viewers and +8% in the demo when compared to the previous month.

Looking back at the same month in 2023, Fox News saw big primetime gains of +52% in total viewers and +72% in the demo, and rose +24% in both measured categories during total day.

The Five remained the most-watched program in Total Viewers (3.198 million at 5 p.m. ET), while Gutfeld! was in first place among A25-54 viewers (309,000 at 10 p.m. ET).

Fox News finished the month No. 1 in primetime and total day among total viewers; it placed fourth in primetime and second in total day in the demo.

MSNBC

MSNBC finished second in total viewers in primetime and total day with 1.171 million and 766,000 viewers, respectively. In the A25-54 demo, it pulled in 116,000 viewers in primetime and 79,000 viewers during total day. That translates to month-to-month gains of +1% in total viewers and +5% in the demo during primetime and respective declines of -6% and -5% in both of those categories during total day.

Year-to-year, MSNBC was down -11% in total viewers and -19% in the demo during primetime. During total day, it declined by -8% and -19%, respectively.

The network’s most-watched show in total viewers was Deadline: White House with Nicole Wallace (1.532 million at 5 p.m. ET). All In with Chris Hayes and Inside with Jen Psaki (142,000 at 8 p.m. ET) topped MSBNC’s shows in the demo.

MSNBC finished in third place during primetime and second place during total day. In the demo, it tied for 18th place with Comedy Central during primetime and finished 12th during total day.

CNN

CNN enjoyed one of its best months with 689,000 total viewers and 154,000 A25-54 viewers during primetime. In total day, the network saw 454,000 total viewers and 86,000 demo viewers. CNN finished June as the No. 2 network in the demo during primetime and total day.

Compared to May, CNN saw big primetime jumps, climbing +33% in total viewers and +60% in the demo. During total day, it was down -3% in total viewers, but rose +6% in the demo. Looking back at June 2023, CNN’s primetime lineup rose +9% in total viewers and +19% in the demo. In total day, the network was down -8% and -14%, respectively.

Anderson Cooper 360 was the network’s top performer in both categories, attracting 730,000 total viewers and 139,000 demo viewers.

CNN was the No. 6 network during primetime and No. 4 during total day. In the demo, it ranked sixth in both primetime and total day. In the latter category, it shared the No. 6 spot with Comedy Central.

Looking at the June performance of the other news nets:

  • Newsmax: Rob Schmitt Tonight (413,000 at 7 p.m. ET) was the net’s top show in total viewers, while Greg Kelly Reports (28,000 at 9 p.m. ET) was the top program in the A25-54 demo.
  • NewsNation: Cuomo led the network in total viewers and the demo with 144,000 and 20,000 viewers, respectively.
  • Fox Business: Kudlow remained the network’s top show in total viewers and the demo with 289,000 and 15,000 viewers, respectively.
  • CNBC: Fast Money Halftime Report (203,000 viewers at Noon ET) took the top spot in total viewers with 203,000 viewers, while Closing Bell (43,000 viewers at 3 p.m. ET) was the top show in the demo.
