ABC News has become the latest network to announce that it will simulcast CNN’s June 27 debate between President Joe Biden and Vice President Donald Trump. The simulcast will begin at 9 p.m. ET on ABC, ABC News Live and Hulu and will include two commercial breaks.
But ABC also plans to surround CNN’s simulcast with its own robust slate of original programming, which will likely include more than a few mentions of the network’s own presidential debate featuring Biden and Trump, scheduled for Sept. 10. Coverage will begin at 7 p.m. ET, leading into the 8 p.m. premiere of the one-hour special, Battle for the White House, which will air across ABC’s linear and streaming networks.
World News Tonight anchor David Muir will host Battle for the White House, with additional commentary and coverage provided by ABC News Live anchor Linsey Davis, chief White House correspondent Mary Bruce and chief global affairs correspondent Marta Raddatz among many others. Muir and Davis will serve as the moderators of the Sept. 10 debate.
In addition to appearing on Battle for the White House, Davis will anchor pre and post-debate installments of her ABC News Live series, Prime. ABC News White House correspondent MaryAlice Parks and deputy political director Averi Harper will file regular streaming reports throughout the day as well. Additional coverage is planned on ABC’s various digital platforms, including ABC News Digital, 538 and ABC Audio.
The morning after the debate, viewers can wake up to a live episode of The View that will feature the hosts’ reactions to Biden and Trump’s first match-up of the 2024 election cycle. With at least one recent poll showing that 63% of Americans plan to watch CNN’s debate, ABC’s September rematch should similarly attract a wide audience.
