Tell Congress: End Solitary Confinement

Solitary confinement, the SHU, isolation, restrictive housing, administrative segregation. Whatever you call it, solitary confinement is torture. Period. The U.S. shouldn't be in the business of torturing people, but on any given day, more than 11,000 people are held in solitary confinement in federal prisons alone.

This inhumane practice must end and there's a bill moving in Congress that could help. The End Solitary Confinement Act (ESCA) would ban the use of solitary confinement in all federal carceral facilities, except in extremely limited circumstances, provide additional protections for vulnerable groups, and ensure meaningful access to programming and out-of-cell time for all people in federal custody. We must act now. Send a message to your Members of Congress and tell them to cosponsor the End Solitary Confinement Act.
