MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Plans for the construction of on-campus baseball and softball fields at University High School remain in place and organizers continue to push towards the fundraising target of $4 million.
University High School was constructed in the Bakers Ridge section of Morgantown and opened in 2008. The Hawks continue to play their baseball and softball games across town at Mylan Park.
If completed, the plan for the on-campus sports complex would call for building of baseball and softball fields as well as eight tennis courts. The proposed construction site is the land to the right of Mylan Pharmaceuticals Stadium as viewed from the press box side of the field.
The $4 million price tag includes site preparation, installation of playing surfaces, and supplementary components. The Monongalia County Board of Education has committed $2 million in matching funds to the campaign. To date, projection organizers say they have secured funds at just over $3 million.
The University H.S. softball team won the Class AAA state championship in May, while the baseball team advanced to the Class AAA state tournament in 2023.
